THERE IS A BIBLE STUDY IN YOUR SEPTEMBER! We are United Methodists. We agree to pray. We declare we will show up. We promise to give. We pledge to serve. We commit to witness. Those five items make up a really full plate for anyone. Yet, I would want one more item to complete the table of following Jesus and learning to be Disciples. That would be Bible Study. On Sundays, our Bible study is called Sunday School. We have wonderful classes with excellent teachers for all ages, including yours. The rest of the weekdays Bible study is called small group ministry. The schedule: Monday, 7 p.m. Covenant Bible Study in 16 Cherry Street. Wednesday for Women, 10 a.m. That The World May Know in Family Life Center. Wednesday, 10 a.m. Books with Bowen in 16 Cherry Street. Wednesday for Parents, 5:15 p.m. That The World May Know in 16 Cherry Street. Wednesday, 7 p.m. That The World May Know in 16 Cherry Street. Thursday for Men, 10 a.m. That The World May Know in 16 Cherry Street. Thursday, 7 p.m. That The World May Know in 16 Cherry Street. Contact David Bowen or the Church Office for additional information, sched-ules, materials, or workbooks.
PLEASE NOTE: All small groups will begin the week of September 19.
In September, UMW will sponsor a church-wide Mission
Study, which will be coordinated by Sadie Beauchamp,
our Education for Missions Coordinator, working with
Reverend David Bowen. This will take place on
September 18th and September 25th and UMW women
will be helping with the services.
Circle 3 will meet on September 19th at 7:00p.
Hannah Circle will meet on September 20th at 2:00p.
Circle 5 will meet on September 20th at 7:00p.

August 2016 Financial Update
Amount Needed through August: $280,398
Received through 8/14/16 $290,931
Expenditures through 8/14/16 $268,029
GREAT DAY OF SERVICE - THANKS TO YOU IT HAPPENED!
During the month of August, over 100 volunteers from local Methodist Church-
es dedicated their time to helping the elderly, disabled, homeless, hungry
and battered by cleaning homes, doing yard work, knitting and crocheting
blankets, writing letters, thanking the military and police, playing games with
seniors, offering diapers to young mothers, and providing boxes of food to
families in our communities.
Your true thank you can not be found in just a simple bulletin note written here. Many of you
found it on the faces of those you served and from the joy you received working with others for
a good cause. Thank you from all your Great Day of Service leaders for doing a special job. Re-
member Jesus words, "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servants will
also be." John 12:26.

UMC Red Bird Mission
Sept 25 – Oct 1, 2016
Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in this Beverly,
Kentucky, region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921 with support from
United Methodist Churches all over the nation. Today the need remains criti-
cal in the semi-isolated rural distressed area. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing pro-
vide obstacles in this rugged mountain terrain. For over 20 years, Jefferson FUMC has been
sending a yearly team to help with various repair projects in the homes of the residents. Betty
Hoyt will be joining their team again this year. Thank you for your financial support through the
fundraiser meal that was held in April. A check will be delivered to Red Bird from our church as
well as Jefferson First. Please pray for the team and those they serve, for safe travels, safety at
the work sites, and above all, that the love of Jesus will overflow in compassion and service.

UMW REPORT
I would like to update you on what UMW has been doing over the last few months.
First, I want to correct an error that was in the June newsletter. The amount of the do-
nation reported as being given from UMW toward the June Vacation Bible School was
erroneously reported as being $200, when in reality the amount donated was actually
$500. Additionally, numerous UMW women worked with the children and in the kitchen helping with preparation,
cooking, serving and cleaning up. The VBS was well attended by our children and children from our community
and they all had a wonderful time.
In July, each of our Circles hosted either a Watermelon or Ice Cream social at one of the area nursing homes. This
year the circles visited Bentley Assisted Living, Brookdale at Peachtree Village, and Northridge Nursing Home
where they served refreshing watermelon or ice cream to the residents and spent time visiting with them. The resi-
dents always enjoy these socials very much and our ladies enjoy doing it as it is a heartwarming experience.
On July 31st, we sponsored our annual Back-to-School Bash to provide school supplies for the needy in our area
schools. UMW provided a free hamburger/hotdog supper with all the condiments and served ice cream and other
desserts to complete the meal. There is no charge for the meal, we just ask for attendees to donate some school
supplies. As usual, our congregation is so caring and generous that we collected a large amount of supplies and
were able to completely pack up 55 backpacks with the needed supplies, plus we were able to give an additional
box full of supplies to Commerce Schools, Banks County Schools, East Jackson Schools, and Madison County
Schools. WE THANK EACH OF YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING SUCH A GIVING HEART AND REACHING OUT TO
HELP THESE CHILDREN OF OUR AREA COMMUNITIES.
In September, we will sponsor another church-wide Mission Study, which will be coordinated by Sadie Beauchamp,
our Education for Missions Coordinator, working with Reverend David Bowen. This will take place on September
18th and September 25th and UMW women will be helping with the services.
We are so thankful for the outstanding support we always receive from our congregation as we work to raise funds
for missions for women and children. You make it possible for us to meet our goals and do the work that we do.
Thank you!
Judy Paugh
