As I wandered around the corridors after my return from long service leave, the sounds of learning are all in place and evident on the display walls and corridor boards. The healthiest revelation is that often when I stop to take a look at the displays, or go into classrooms, children engage me in a discussion about their work and learning. More can be assessed about what they have been taught than can be seen in work books or homework folders or mark books. I guess you will get what I am driving at here and it is the importance of regular conversations about learning with your children. Parents/carers and grandparents can add and enrich learning by just showing an interest. Of course many students will respond to the ”what did you do at school today/this week” questions with “nothing” or “not much” and it can take a little more digging. Often they will reveal more of their learning through random comments and allow parents to pick up the thread and continue the discussion. It is usually always revealing as to which bits of their learning they value most highly. The Questacon Science Circus will be visiting our school this Wednesday 12th August. The Science lessons they give are enriching and exciting and with a new Science Syllabus just entering schools our teachers will be carefully watching and learning too. Grade 6 will have a second great science experience in a few weeks on their excursion in Canberra where the Questacon visit is a highlight. ATTENDANCE - we have been informed that if children are away for more than 3 days they need to return to school with a doctors certificate or the absence cannot be justified even if a note is provided by parents. Doctor’s certificates and parental notes need more information than saying the child was “sick”. Reasons like e.g flu, tonsillitis, stomach problems, gastro enteritis are necessary as these reasons support our class teachers in keeping an eye on the whole class welfare as well. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Chisholm Bloch ENROLMENTS FOR 2016 We are currently accepting kindergarten enrolments for 2016. Its good to return to a school that is humming along. As I wandered around the

corridors after my return from long service leave, the sounds of learning are all in

place and evident on the display walls and corridor boards. The healthiest

revelation is that often when I stop to take a look at the displays, or go into

classrooms, children engage me in a discussion about their work and learning.

More can be assessed about what they have been taught than can be seen in work

books or homework folders or mark books. I guess you will get what I am

driving at here and it is the importance of regular conversations about learning

with your children. Parents/carers and grandparents can add and enrich learning

by just showing an interest. Of course many students will respond to the ”what

did you do at school today/this week” questions with “nothing” or “not much”

and it can take a little more digging. Often they will reveal more of their learning

through random comments and allow parents to pick up the thread and continue

the discussion. It is usually always revealing as to which bits of their learning they

value most highly.

The Questacon Science Circus will be

visiting our school this Wednesday

12th August. The Science lessons

they give are enriching and exciting and

with a new Science Syllabus just

entering schools our teachers will be

carefully watching and learning too. Grade 6 will have a second great science

experience in a few weeks on their excursion in Canberra where the Questacon

visit is a highlight.

ATTENDANCE - we have been informed that if children are away for

more than 3 days they need to return to school with a doctors certificate or the

absence cannot be justified even if a note is provided by parents. Doctor’s

certificates and parental notes need more information than saying the child was

“sick”. Reasons like e.g flu, tonsillitis, stomach problems, gastro enteritis are

necessary as these reasons support our class teachers in keeping an eye on the

whole class welfare as well. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Book Week

Assembly

The Book Week Assembly will be

held on Tuesday 18th August,

starting at 11:30am with our

character parade. Children can

come dressed as their favourite

book character on that day and

bring their favourite book to share

during a buddy read-in after the

assembly.

The Book

Week theme

for 2015 is

“Books Light

Up Our

World”.

We no longer have the luxury of a local specialised book shop,

so we are trialing the use of Australian owned Redgum Book

Club. Your child will not be bringing home a catalogue as we

have opted to go paperless, but please look at the Term 3

digital catalogue here: http://issuu.com/redgumbookclub/docs/

redgum_book_club_term_3_2015_school/1 and go to www.redgumbookclub.com.au if you wish to order.

If you wish to save on postage, you can have the books

delivered to school and they will be sent home with your child.

Orders close Monday 17th August, and will be delivered to

the school before Friday 4th September.
