Tuesday 21st April 2015 Term 2 Week 1
MORGIE NEWS Telephone: 08 8087 5155 Principal: Mr Chisholm Bloch Fax: 08 8087 3729 Email: [email protected] Webpage: www.morganst-p.schools.nsw.edu.au
It was a fantastic start to Term 2 this morning, even though it was a little chilly. The children I spoke to before school and throughout today had a great holiday and travelled to many places, but also sounded positive about being among friends and teachers at school.
Having spent a week in Bali for my first ever overseas trip I find myself now reflecting on many of the positives our Australian way of life has and which we take for granted. This is specially important as we are in the week that leads to ANZAC DAY here at school on Thursday and on Saturday in Broken Hill town march. Children in Bali certainly have a very different cultural background than our Morgies. It was eye opening to witness the daily lives of Balinese and how the Tourist industry has affected the island.
Morgan Street is back in swing and we wish to welcome back Mrs Files and Ms Muir who had been on leave at the end of term and also welcome to our teaching team Mrs Earl (yes Mr Earl got married in the holidays) to teach 3C as Mr Byrne is on leave. Parents are welcome to come in and meet Mrs Earl after school or by appointment.
This term Year 3 and Year 6 will be participating in “Friends for Life” program work each Tuesday for an hour. The program aims to assist children with a better understanding of the complexities they face on a daily basis with relationships, and many with anxiety. Todays TV news tells the story of 1 in 10 children suffer anxiety related issue although research suggest it is more likely as high as 4 in 10. I am confident that within the lessons there is something for these students and also assistance for the other students who need to interact with them in classroom and playground. I suggest that in the weekly follow-ups that are aimed for students to complete at home that some parents will pick up useful strategies to assist and help assure them that they doing a good job of raising their children. We see evidence of this each day at Morgan Street Public School.

The school’s ANZAC Service will be held on Thursday 23rd April 2015 at 10.15am in the
hall. Everyone is welcome to join the school body for this important recognition of our ANZAC
history. All students are requested to bring some flowers to school for their class wreaths and
wear their official school uniform.
ANZAC DAY Town March
We are once again hoping to have a large contingent of students involved in this great tradition
as we commemorate 100 years of Anzac. As ANZAC Day is this Saturday we hope many
students are able to march with the school group. We envisage that all SRC members would
participate as a responsibility of their role and as Year 6 are studying this topic in HSIE we hope
that many of them are able to participate. Children marching will need to wear their school
uniform. Children are asked to assemble near Hungry Jacks by 10.30am on Saturday 25th
April, 2015. If children wish to wear medals of a relative they are asked to wear them on the
right-hand side.

POSITIVE PLAYGROUNDS
Last term teachers continued to monitor and record
inappropriate behaviours and incidents in the
playground book. There was a total of 73 incidents
recorded compared to 80 at the same time in 2014.
This is a great improvement and one that we would like
to see continue.
The types of inappropriate behaviours that teachers
record include - disrespect of others and property,
disobedience, physical contact such as hitting, kicking,
punching and pushing, verbal incidents such as teasing,
name calling, swearing and lying.
Types of incidents recorded in Term 1
Incidents per grade in Term 1
Congratulations Year 2 and Year 6. You are
certainly getting it right in the playground
Our aim this term is to work closely with Year One students in order to teach them how to play safely and sensible and respect others and property so that there are less incidents recorded in the playground book in Term Two.
You can do it Year 1!
