As you all know April is always a very busy month for us and this year was no different. We started off with The Yuma County Fair / Chicken Shack as of my writing I have not been given a final number. Thank you to Stew Johnson, Lonny Cline and their hard working crews for a great job. Next was our first meeting for the new core of officers some of the officers were scored from the side liner’s and got a great score. April 9th was our Arizona Elks Major State & Local Project Dinner and Auction everyone had a great time and a lot of money was raised I would like to thank Joe Inman and his committee for a great job, you all really out did yourselves this year. We also had our first blood drive and Glen Harris and Glen Ball work very hard to make our goal. The Tri State Camp Out will start on April 20th. Our Cactus Camper’s will be hosting this even. As May is upon us Our Mother’s day program will be on May 8th at 2:00PM, May 11th there will be no meeting as most of the officer will be at the Arizona Elk’s Association’s Annual State Convention, Our Scholarship luncheon will be on May 15th at 2:00PM this is when we will honor the great Students of Yuma County, that won scholarships from your lodge. On April 21st Cactus Campers will have their monthly camp out if you have any question please contact the wagon master Chuck Donaker. These events are open to all Elks, their family and friends. I would like to end with thanking the committee’s that worked very hard to make all of these events a success, and remind everyone that the Elks is not just a place to eat and drink. It’s these events and the people we help in our community and state that make the Yuma Lodge of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks who we are.

Hello Members and Friends, I hope everyone is enjoying our reprieve from the unusually “warm” (aka HOT) temperatures we’ve experienced in the past few weeks. At our last General meeting on April 5th our Installation Chairlady, Anne-Heather Welch, formally installed the following new Officers for their respective positions for this term: Darlene Freeman, Chaplain, and Doris Lucas, Corresponding Secretary. Karen Goudy will be installed as the new Vice-President at our next meeting, as she has been out of town enjoying her new grandchild. Jo Beth Sharpensteen has been appointed Parliamentarian and Advisor, as Nancy Thompson already holds the position of Recording Secretary on the Board. The Lodge is providing a special Mothers’ Day buffet and celebration on May 8th at 2:00 PM. Further information is provided in the Dust and posters in the Lodge. This is a special annual treat the Lodge provides, and I hope MANY will attend and appreciate their recognition of our maternal members. We had a slight increase in attendance at our last meeting, and since we are continuing to initiate new members rather frequently, it would be GREAT to have you join us at our meetings and help with our projects to support the Lodge. This month’s birthday honorees are: Glynda McConaughey (5/7), Marianne Lawrence (5/9), Tina Smith (5/13), Nancy Thompson (5/14), Helen Humbach (5/15), Diana Whitney (5/17), Sharon Gale (5/23), Neldeane Kuban (5/24), and Jo Beth Sharpensteen (5/24). I apologize to those whose names have been overlooked as I have not yet received an updated roster including our newly initiated members. We hope to help you celebrate at our Birthday Lunch Bunch on May 10th at 12:30.
Hope to see you soon! Sheri Merrill, President, Auxiliary 476
As the Auxiliary tries to jump into the 21st Century, we have formed a committee to evaluate ways to increase our member participation as well as our communication between each member. So as we go into our “High Tech” mode it was decided to go into it with both feet and move forward. In going forward we are collecting each member’s e-mail address to start. We want to make sure everyone is a vital part of making the Auxiliary a stronger force and with communication between us we’re hoping to build up the participation.
Please, at our next meeting, be ready to give us your e-mail address or send it to Nancy Thompson at [email protected], or feel free to contact any of the committee members:

Thank you-
Rather than our usual April campout our group hosted and put on the Tri-State Get-Together. Consisting of camping groups from Arizona, New Mexico and Texas Elks Lodges converge annually to share a 4 day “campout”. This year the Yuma Elks Lodge 476 Cactus Campers, headed by our Wagonmaster Chuck Donaker will host the event; held at Fortuna De Oro RV Park from April 20th to April 23rd. As all Elks know, putting on a fun, fast-paced and tight scheduled event for a few hundred fun loving people takes a lot of work, time and dedication, but a lot of fun. Chuck and his team of volunteers were happy to get the help and donations from our Yuma Merchants. A whole bunch of prizes, raffles, meals, happy-hours games, visiting, and sharing Elks experiences were happily enjoyed by all. A Big Thank You to our Wagonmaster Chuck Donaker and his dedicated crew for a job well done representing Yuma Elks Lodge 476!!
