In areas along designated motor vehicle routes where general dispersed camping with motor vehicles is not allowed, a small number of designated dispersed campsites have been mark edon-the-ground. In these designated dispersed camp sites, theaccess road to the site and the site itself are only open to motorvehicles during the same season of use indicated for the adjacent road or trail.T here are numerous short designated motor vehicle routesaround the forest that are sometimes too small to display. T hese routes are signed on the ground wtih route numbers.If they are too small to display on the MVUM, they are notreferenced on the route table. T he seasonal restriction forthe short spurs are the same as its adjacent primary accessroute. On the Custer Gallatin National Forest, designated motoriz edT R AIL S open to wheeled vehicles less than 50 inches in width,are ONLY open to OHVs and MOT OR CY CLES that meet the following criteria: OHVs are defined as: motoriz ed, wheeled trail vehicles that are less than 50 inches in width at the widest point on the vehicle. Motorcycles are defined as: motoriz ed, wheeled trail vehicles that are less than 50 inches in width at the widest point on the vehicle, with a maximum of two wheels in-line with the direction of travel.

R oads Open to Highway L egal Vehicle Only:T hese roads are open only to motor vehicles licensed underS tate law for general operation on all public roads within theS tate.R oads Open to All Vehicles:T hese roads are open to all motor vehicles, including smalleroff highway vehicles that may not be licensed for highway use(but not to oversiz e or overweight vehicles under S tate trafficlaw).T rails Open to Motorcycles Only:T hese trails are open only to motorcycles. S idecars are notpermitted.T rails Open to W heeled Vehicles 50 inches or L ess in W idth:

T hese trails are open only to wheeled, motor vehicles lessthan 50 inches in width at the widest point on the vehicle.

EXPLANATION OF LEGEND ITEMSS easonal Designation:T his symbol, used in conjunction with one of the other road ortrail symbols, indicates that the road or trail is open onlyduring certain portions of the year. R efer to the S easonal andS pecial Designation Table for further instructions.

Dispersed Camping:

T his symbol is used along with a designated road or trail toindicate that limited cross-country motor vehicle use is allowedwithin 300 feet of that route, solely for the purpose ofdispersed camping.Motoriz ed T rail Access:

T his symbol indicates a trail head for access to a motoriz edroute. Not all motoriz ed routes have trail heads and those thatdo may range from primitive to developed.
