Message from our Pastor One of the things that continues to happen in the lives of people is moments or periods of transition. In our faith community here at Mount Olive, we have seen a lot of transitioning recently. The most obvious is the movement of our winter visitors. Some have left earlier in the year and others have left recently or within the very near future.

We have other brothers and sisters in Christ who have transitioned to other locations and new homes out-side the Lake Havasu community for the sake of being closer to family/some dealing with the reality of aging and for others it could be health-related.

We also have those who have been a part of this faith family, who have felt the leading of God’s spirit and God’s calling to transition into other ministry opportuni-ties and callings.

Our life and faith journeys are sometimes planned, other times unexpectedly interrupted with chal-lenges, struggles, opportunities and new ventures that we had not anticipated. Including journeys that take us down roads that present health challenges such as cancer, can-cer treatments and therapy, or surgeries and recovery from knee, hip, shoulder, just to name a few. Other life and faith journeys are out of a sense of call. Sometimes that calling is gradual and other times it is immediate. Being open to the calling and the discernment of God’s call is a challenge and a work of patience.

That all being said, we are so thankful for the many ways in which so many people have come into the faith community here at Mount Olive and impacted this ministry with their gifts. We are grateful for their faithful years of service, friendship, spiritual and mental support for one another. Many of us have journeyed with and had the privilege of walking alongside those who are transi-tioning into other settings in life.

In our Lenten journey we have continued to pray-er the following prayer at the conclusion of each worship. “Lord God, you have called your servants to ventures of

We hope to visit occasionally, as Havasu means so much to us because of the people here. May God Bless you all.

Your gift to the Music Fund is greatly

appreciated and will be used with great

excitement and pleasure for the whole

congregation.

DO YOU HAVE A "TRIPLE-A FRIEND"? According to Kenneth Haugk, found-er of Stephen Ministry, a "Triple-A Friend" is one with whom you can share any-thing on your mind and everything in your heart because they Accept Absolute-ly Anything you need to share. When you're talking with them, you don't need to sanitize your thoughts or filter your feelings to avoid making them uncomforta-ble. You don't have to pretend to be in good spirits, either. If you feel awful, you

can let them know exactly how awful. Whatever you have to say, you can trust these people to handle it without flinching, falling apart, or scolding you for being negative. WOW!! I think there are times that all of us could use a person like that!

Some people may find their "Triple-A Friend" in the person of a Stephen Minister. That is exactly part of what our lay caregivers are trained to do. You can express your fears, anger, frustrations, worries, or whatever you are feeling and know that no one else will know what you have said. Stephen Ministers are trustworthy care givers who know the importance of confidentiality. Our purpose is to help you get through the troubles in your life while pointing you towards the ultimate Healer, God. This is how one caregiver who had cancer described her experience with a Stephen Minister: "Whenever my Stephen Minister came to visit me, I could ask all the "why me?" questions. I could hurt, be afraid, get angry, cry- and know that is was all okay. She didn't try to make it better or tell me what I should do or how I should feel. She just listened and cared".

There are Stephen Ministers available to help and we are a phone call away. If you or someone you know would like a "Triple-A Friend", please contact Pastor Craig or one of the leaders listed below:

Letter from Sharon Harvey

March 22, 2018

Dear Pastor Corbin:

It is with joy and sadness that I write this letter. There is joy, in pursuing a sense of

God’s call to ministry on my life, and sadness to say goodbye to Mount Olive Lu-

theran Church where I have served in music ministry for 3 years and 3 months.

Thank you for the opportunity to flourish for the Lord among the happy and wel-

coming people of Mount Olive! I shall always look back fondly on the many good

memories working with Chancel Choir, Bass Clef, Praise Band, and book study.

What a wonderful time we’ve had!

After much deliberation in the Word, Christian counsel, and prayer, I have decided

to launch out into the deep waters of the unknown to see whether God would have

a place for me, returning to a call to ministry that I felt 20 years ago. Thank you

for your support, prayers, and blessing. I am also grateful for the opportunities to

preach that you gave to me. I trust that our good works started at Mount Olive will

carry on just fine, and that God will continue to bless the wonderful ministries and

people there.

I expect to finish my duties on Sunday, April 15, and I will be returning to the Naz-

arene Church where I spent most of my life of faith. I will look forward to seeing

Mount Olive folk around the town, and your ongoing friendships. We serve a

great God, and may He accomplish all that He desires in our lives!

Sincerely,

Sharon Harvey

Since our knitted and crocheted items were blessed on

the altar during the weekend of January 28, 2018, our

Prayer Shawl Ministry has donated 96 adult shawls. We

thank the people who requested them for those recipients.

At our last meeting Pastor Corbin blessed a number of

items so they could be donated in a timely manner to

Sally’s House. Those items were 17 prayer shawls, 6 children’s shawls, 5 ponchos, 6 crib blankets, and 13 various-

sized hats. Donating items to Sally’s House will be an on-going project. Of course, we will continue to donate

shawls, etc., to others, also, as we have been doing over the years since the Prayer Shawl Ministry was formed.

The response received by our group from the recipients has been overwhelming. We truly enjoy creating the gar-

ments, etc., and donating for others to use. Thank you to all who crochet and knit in the Prayer Shawl Ministry and

thank you to all the people who request items from our Ministry.

We invite anyone who is interested in joining the Prayer Shawl Ministry to feel free to come to our meetings which

are held at 10 am every second Tuesday of each month, except June, July, and August, at the Fireside Room at

Mount Olive.

A SPECIAL REPORT ON MEMORIAL SERVICES FOOD SERVICE

The after-memorial reception began several years ago by a group known as Martha’s Angels. {Note: A loved one dies and the family wishes to have food service in addition to the church service.} The present day situation is that those dedicated women who, through all these years, have always provided this

necessary service, are now physically unable to continue to serve in the same capacity. These memorials are usually held on a Saturday, although that is not a given. Some memorials are a pot luck affair, some are ca-tered sandwiches/cold cuts while some are cookies and coffee, etc.

While this Committee wishes to remain as mentors, the basic facts are that even the organization of the above services require special sets ups, ordering food, serving as well as cleaning up and cannot be contin-ued without some new able bodied persons, men as well as women, who wish to become involved and take on this responsibility. Please search your heart to see if there are any of you interested in maintaining this charitable committee, please talk to Pastor Craig or Linda Nord. Otherwise, the remaining persons will no longer be able to pro-vide any food services other than simple coffee, cold drinks and cookies.

A Huge Thank You to Skip and Linda Schulzkump

For their donation to the Building, Youth, and Music Funds.

Skip had finished the railings at the front of the church and was compensated for his work. They gave the check back to Mount Olive to be divided up evenly

between the three Funds mentioned above.

Thank you Schulzkumps

A Big Thank You to all of you who brought Palm Fronds for our Palm

Sunday Weekend Worship Services. Bud Hawkins headed up this task with grate-

fulness! The folks who decorated did a very nice job. Thank you all.

The Annual Tea in February was a huge success despite the last minute snafu of changing venue. If you haven’t seen the changes in the Community Meeting area of the Parish Center, you will be pleasantly surprised. {More about that in a mi-

nute.} Because of the remodeling of the meeting area, our Tea had to be held in the Friendship Café. There were logistics involved but Leslie Hollman’s committee came

through, and most of the ladies couldn’t have been the wiser for the last minute scurry.

About the upgrades in the community meeting area and kitchen, the carpeting is gone and a new wood look floor-ing is now completed along with new colors on the walls that bring this area into vogue. Thank you and congratu-lations to the younger generation of women who brought these changes forward. After Easter, the kitchen will also

be repainted – thanks to Joan Morbeto - to coordinate with the rest of this area. Women’s Ministry is coordinating

with Susan Leifer, Property Board, with the purchase of a new – and most needed – refrigerator. Along with this purchase, we are looking into new hardware for the cabinets to pull all these changes together. These purchases and painting of the kitchen are the result of our matching Thrivent Choice Dollars that you either directed to MOLC &/or participated in one of our fund raisers. We acknowledge your contributions and hope our events are all that they should be. We ‘welcome’ your continued input at our Board meetings!

By the time our news is published in the Olive Branch, there is a time delay. A technical issue. . . So, that being

said, I bring your attention to our annual Mother’s Day luncheon on Saturday, May 12 at 1 pm. Your Board and

Circle endeavor to plan a day of celebration for all who attend. You most certainly are aware that these events don’t just happen but are the result of planning and cooperation of dedicated women for the benefit of all. {Off my soap box.} Tickets this year will be $7 to cover the cost of the catered food. Our menu will be croissant chicken sandwiches, fruit and coleslaw along with assorted cookies, etc. A devotion is planned along with a, hoped-for, piano serenade.

Looking Forward:

. Next Women’s Ministries Board meeting is the first Wednesday in April 4 at 9am. Please join us and share your input into our ministry. . The April Circle meeting is the second Tuesday, April 10. at 1 pm. Please join us for a short business meet-

ing, socializing, and a Bible study. . Grand Canyon Synod’s Spring Gathering will be held in Henderson on Saturday, April 21. This is an op-portunity to share with other women, God’s gifts – all are invited and encouraged to attend. A flyer will be posted in the Narthex for sign up.

• Mother’s Day luncheon May 12 at 11am. Tickets and sign up forthcoming.

From the Quilters

Our quilt sale was a huge success! We were able to donate $1,000 to

the Food 4 Kids and $500 to the Indian Mobile Mission. Addition-

ally, we donated 4 lap robes to Veterans, 20 to Lake Hills and 3

quilts to Sally’s Place. Thank you for your support.

Remember that quilts of all sizes are available for sale year round.

A Note From Marion!!!

My sincere thank you to the Cursillo community of Mount Olive for the grand send off par-ty!! Although I really wanted to leave quietly, you just wouldn’t let me and I so appreciate all who worked and participated to make it a well remembered event for me. Thank you for all the cards and special messages. They warm my heart and remind me of wonderful days in Lake Havasu City and Mount Olive. I think of everyone often and through great technol-

ogy, I treasure keeping in touch!

Peace be with all of you, my brothers and sisters in Christ!
