Hi Everyone,
Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM – it is always great to be able to recognise all the achievements of Club members over the last year - there is a full list of winners and photos of most included in the Womma this month. Congratulations to all of you.
Secondly, another big thank you to those members who are either joining the Committee for the first time or returning after a break. We welcome Julia Humphries, Kerry Spiers, Lynn Smythe and Nigel Treloar to the Committee and thank them for volunteering. We have also established a sub-committee that will take on some specific tasks.
I’d like to also reiterate the Club’s gratitude and recognition of the contribution that Wendy Marston has made in the role of Chief Instructor for so many years. Nigel is taking on the role going forward and will also bring a wealth of expertise and experience. The role of Chief Instructor is a critical one for the Club and is key to being able to continue to develop our riders. We are fortunate as a Club to have well qualified people to step into important roles.
Also, at the AGM it was a great pleasure to be able to award Demi Marston and Jodie Rowe with very well-deserved life memberships of the Club. This is a great recognition of their contribution over a long period of time.
On riding matters, things are still slowly returning to some semblance of normality. We had a good rally prior to the AGM and there was a good turnout of Mountain members who attended the dressage day run by Mylor Valley Pony Club at Monarto. There are full results and photos in the Womma this month.
If you attend the Club grounds over the next few weeks you will see that we have well and truly made a start on the clubrooms rebuild. A great crew (ably led by Peter Corner) demolished the old section of the clubrooms and we are ready to commence the rebuild. Unsurprisingly, there was not much holding the building together and it came down easily (sometimes without tools!). We have also decided to extend the kitchen by enclosing the area formerly occupied by the showers. We have raised the roof and are ready to pour a new concrete slab. The showers will be reinstalled near toilets. Thank you to everyone that has pitched in. (Please continue reading the President’s Report on the
following page)
I would like to thank you all for reading the Womma’s I have prepared over the past 4 years. It is now time for me to step down and pass this
rewarding position onto someone else who has new and fresh ideas. Jane Hoffman has kindly offered to take
over the reins. Remember to send in your photos and results to Jane from
now on. Cheers, Robyn

NOTICES
If you have any photos or results from Pony Club events that you would like to go in the Womma, please now send to Jane Hoffman at: [email protected]
Committee Meetings: Each month, the Mountain Pony Club Committee meet. Our next Scheduled meeting is due to be held on Wed 19th August. We would love to hear from our members if there are any issues that could be discussed or addressed. We would like to invite members to send an email via our Mountain Pony Club email before our committee meets so we can add to the agenda.
Our new Committee has been formed at the AGM. An updated list of Committee members you may need to contact are listed at the end of the Womma. Remember that general enquiries can be sent to the Mountain Pony Club email address if you are not sure who to contact.
Southern Zone are holding a Supercross at Monarto on the 30th August. This event has come about to replace the Southern Zone’s annual Francis Figwer event which has been cancelled. As it is a Zone event, all participants will be able to use this event to count towards their Zone Patch for 2020. What a great way to compete in an ODE without the dressage!! Show Jumping will be in the morning and Cross Country in the afternoon. Mountain PC will need to supply some Cross Country jump judges. Stay tuned for emails looking for helpers closer to the date.
An email came out last week regarding Zone Clinics. If you wish to attend a Zone Clinic you MUST have filled out a Zone Training Squad form if you wish to be included in the list of names on the Zone Training Squad list. You should be able to find the form on the PCASA website.
Our ODE held in October is fast approaching. Jobs are already being undertaken to prepare for the event. There are many jobs to be filled for our event to happen (some big and some small). A list will be available at the August Rally to add your name to. Some of the jobs to consider are: Dressage: Marshalls & Pencilers; Show Jumping: Marshall, Time Keeper, Penciler and Rail Stewards; Cross
Country: Start, Finish & Jump Judges (lots needed) and Kitchen Helpers: Saturday and Sunday.
An email was sent regarding this year’s Monarto Camp. Attached was the entry form. Camp dates are
4-9 October. You'll find more info on the form. The camp is always loads of fun which is something we can't have enough of at the moment. You may want to bring your entry form to the rally this Sunday to get it signed off. If you have any questions about the camp let Inge know or contact Deb or Beth Cook directly.
For those looking for hay……
John Eckermann (just south of Strathalbyn) has various types of hay for sale.
It is all shedded & our experience shows it is good quality. He is happy to take calls on 0488 740 006. Generally looking to sell by the ute load rather than boot load.
Cheers, Graham Coulter
President’s Report (cont).
Secondly, you will see that some earthworks have begun to the north of the entry gates. This will level and build up this area and make it more usable. The work is being done for free which is a real bonus for the Club and has been kindly organised by Darren Slade (Caity’s dad), in conjunction with earthworks for the sports complex down the road.
The rally for this month is going to be at Monarto and is a great opportunity to have a look at the cross-country course prior to the supercross that is to be held there at the end of August. It will be as normal a rally as we can manage but will still be a self-catered lunch. Look out for the email from the Club and please make sure you RSVP.
That’s all for now. All the best and safe riding.
Regards Randall

Clubroom Rebuild and Demolition
On Saturday the 19th July the
demolition progress of our
clubrooms began.
Under the guidance of Peter Corner
and with the help of these
handsome dads (below left), the
clubrooms were methodically
dismantled.
As most of you are aware, the iron
was pretty much holding up the
wooden framework due to termite
damage.
The boys were grateful for the
coffees and scones for a much
deserved - morning tea break,
thanks to Lucie Manifold.
Anne Slade had to have the final
sweep of the clubrooms, while
Robyn took photos.
There is no turning back now. Our
new clubrooms are well and truly
underway.

Vet Corner
MINOR WOUNDS AND INJURIES
Inevitably, and usually at the most inconvenient time in your journey with horses you will be dealing with minor cuts and injuries. Some of our large furry friends are more accident prone than others and knowing what to do when you first find a horse with an injury and also deciding whether it is an injury that will need to vets attention are both important things to know. So you’ve come out to the paddock and found blood on our horse’s leg, with some swelling and a small wound. What do you do?
1. Don’t panic! You have your First Aid Kit in the stable ready to go and after reading this you will know exactly what to do.
2. Put a halter and lead on your horse and remove them from any potentially dangerous situations – wire, tin, fences etc.
3. Once secured give the wound a quick assessment – if it appears to be fairly shallow, does not involve a joint and is not bleeding profusely then it is probably ok to start initial treatment. If you have any concerns that a wound is more serious then call your vet immediately.
4. Clean the wound thoroughly with clean cold water. Wound irrigation helps to remove any dirt and debris from the wound and the cold water helps reduce swelling and heat.
5. Once the wound has been cleaned then dry the area as much as possible – being particularly careful if the wound is on a lower limb and may be painful for the horse.
6. Apply wound spray or lotion. There are any number of lotions and potions on the markets. My favourites are the old purple/ pink spray and Manuka honey as initial treatments. The spray also has a fly repellent action.
7. Decide whether to bandage. If the wound is relatively shallow and not oozing much material, then leaving it open to dry is fine. If there is more bleeding or it is at risk of contamination from dust or mud, then applying a light dressing might be best
8. If the horse is sore of show mild swelling of the leg, then restricting the horse to a smaller yard to allow time for them to heal is advisable. Most minor wounds will resolve to the point of being able to ride again within 7 days or so. Wounds that continue to bleed, develop a yellow discharge or cause the leg to become more swollen are all reasons to call you vet
9. Any wound should also prompt you to ensure that your horses Tetanus vaccination status is up to date. Horses should be vaccinated every 5 years for tetanus and a Tetanus antitoxin can also be administered at the time of injury.
We will leave bandaging of these wound until the next womma and until then- happy riding and stay safe
