Well begin our journey in the Equipment Distribution room. An employee is loading Baxter IVP #456 on the tracking cart to fulfill a request for Room B326. As the IVP is loaded onto the cart, its position is logged into the website. As the employee arrives on the third floor, the tracking cart reports that the IVP #456 was identified at the elevator landing.

Arriving on the third floor, the employee gets a call from the Maintenance Dept. to locate IVP #428. The employee checks the website on his handheld computer and sees that IVP #428 was last identified at Room B330, not far from his delivery.

As the employee moves through B-Wing the tracking cart identifies IVP #414. IVP #414 was located in the Emergency room earlier in the day, but has now been identified near room B317. Note that it updates #456 as well.

A little farther up the hallway the tracking cart identifies IVP #216 near room B320 and updates the database for IVPs 216 and 456.

The employee arrives at B326 and mounts IVP 456 on an IV pole. As he leaves IVP #456s last update is 3:44 pm at Room B326.

Arriving at B330 the employee finds IVP #428 and places it on the cart, which results in the systems updating 428s record. A few minutes later the system shows that the employee dropped the pump off at the Maintenance Department.

So, as you can see, the Mobile RFID tracking system provides automatic visibility of medical equipment usage patterns, reducing equipment idle time and increasing the process efficiency of distribution, maintenance, and patient care.
