The largest MountainPlains export industry in 2019, primary metal manufacturing, represented 18.6 percent of total U.S. exports. TransportaƟon equipment manufacturing, the second largest MountainPlains export industry in 2019, accounted for 2.6 percent of the industry’s total exports by trade dollar value for the United States. The MountainPlains region, which consists of Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming, exported a total trade value of $53.5 billion in 2019, increasing 3.3 percent from 2018. Export prices for primary metal manufacturing and transportaƟon equipment manufacturing, the 2 largest industries in the region by trade dollar value, rose from July 2019 to July 2020. Chemical manufacturing prices increased over the same period. U.S. Export Price Indexes: Primary Metal Manufacturing The price index for primary metal manufacturing exports increased 4.9 percent from April to July. Export primary metal manufacturing prices rose 12.7 percent over the past year. The 12month increase in primary metal manufacturing prices was the largest since the index advanced 12.8 percent over the year ended November 2011. Mountain‐Plains: Price Movements of Top Exports and Other Highlights

The Mountain‐Plains states accountedfor 3.3 percent of total U.S. exports bytrade dollar value in 2019.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing

The price index for chemical manufacturing exports advanced 0.4 percent over the 3‐month period ended in July.

A 1.5‐percent increase in prices for pharmaceu cal and medicine manufacturing drove the overall 3‐month rise in chemical manufacturing prices.

Chemical manufacturing export prices fell 4.0 percent from July 2019 to July 2020.

In 2019, the Mountains‐Plains states accounted for 3.3 percent of total U.S. exports by trade dollar value.

Utah accounted for 32.4 percent of total Mountains‐Plains exports, while Missouri and Kansas accounted for 25.1 percent and 21.7 percent of the region’s trade dollar value, respec vely.

Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming combined for 20.8 percent of Mountain‐Plains exports by trade dollar value in 2019.

Export transporta on equipment manufacturing prices declined 0.3 percent over the 3‐month period ended in July.

The price index for transporta on equipment manufacturing exports increased 0.2 percent over the past year.

A 0.4‐percent rise in motor vehicle parts manufacturing prices drove the 12‐month advance in transporta on equipment manufacturing prices.
