ART, HISTORY AND CULTURE

Piedmont: an area where history is told by its castles, abbeys, fortresses, Royal residences, sanctuaries, squares and hamlets that maintain and upkeep art and remembrances, a real trip to discover suggestive landscapes and fascinating places. Piedmont has over 100 museums, many of Contemporary Art, over 500 castles, 14 House of Savoy residences and several historical Baroque villas complete with gardens. The Royal residence circuit is an extraordinarily interesting historical and art complex, declared property of All Human Beings by UNESCO in 1997. Piedmont is the homeland of Baroque that has always accompanied the birth and development of the Savoy State from the late 16th to the late 19th Centuries. Leading artists of those days, such as Filippo Juvarra and Guarino Guarini were active at Turin, where some of the most important expressions of Baroque are to be seen, such as the Church of Saint Lawrence, the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge and Palazzo Carignano.
