TYPES OF ANIMATION Movement, Morphing, Masking

P1 – Computer Animation

Movement –

is about the process from one position to another illusion by means of rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. Images are displayed in a rapid succession, usually 24, 25, or 30 frames per second.

Morphing - Morphing is a special effect in motion

pictures and animations that morphs one image into another through a seamless transition, traditionally such a depiction would be achieved through cross-fading techniques on film

Masking - masking is a visual style that makes you

focus on a specific part on the screen. A familiar and minimally detailed character provider a stronger emotional connection and allows viewers to identify more easily.

Advertising Advertising is a key step when it comes to animation

because it allows you to develop static, thrilling and eye catching adverts without going to any extreme lengths to do so. An example of this could range from the E4 intros that range from many different styles of animation as well as the Frosties advert that has its own catchphrase and events during its advert to advertise the cereal itself as well as a range of sports.

Entertainment A great and possibly commonly known animated movie ‘the mask’. Is a story

about how a man who loved cartons happened to find a mask that allowed him to become one, (as his days after the mask comes into his life are filled with limitless possibilities he begins to think it is a dream till he meet an intervention then he begins to develop a criminal persona and several schemes on getting what he wants.) The animated presentation is found within the scenes of when he’s removing & putting on the mask and when his out on the prowl with the mask on. There are also other films that this type of animation is presented ‘van helsing’, who framed roger rabbit’ and the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ sequels the animation used is a surreal texture of animation it is a surreal texture mainly because of how it blends in with the human actors and looks like a real life scenario.

Education Animation is key in kids programmes and channels

to both boost their imagination and promote smiling since the characters in the shows can hold a smile for the entire show as well as creating special effects to allow the viewers to stay interested. Get well soon. Dora the explorer -teaches kids about nature and friendship, along with academic concepts like the alphabet and counting. Word world -he will learn valuable literacy skill and slowly become a spelling pro.

Simulation There are many different forms of

simulation they can either be (first person) Hands On or (third person) Watch and Follow. They can be used in for simulating experiences such as Piloting, driving, exercising, cooking, baking and entertaining

Animated GIF

Advantages Disadvantages

1. are easy to create/develop.

2. They have relatively small file sizes.

3. They were developed to Load quickly upon being accessed.

4. they’re easy to use on websites and webpages.

5. If browser supports images it most likely supports the gif.

1. They only have a colour palette of 250 - 260 colours maximum

2. Once the animation has been coded into the actual GIF file there is no way to go back and edit the image

3. they tend to reduce the quality of the site they're on if the connection isn't a good+ quality

4. The animations have to be produced simple due because they must be a fixed file size to transfer over the internet clearly.

5. They cannot include sound, meaning it might become boring to viewers.

Dynamic HMTL

Advantages Disadvantages Can be used to create

animation on webpages used to make to make

browser-based games DHTML are now usually

created in CSS languages by themselves

Platform problems with DHTML because of the way different web browsers read web languages

Features of DHTML are available with Flash and can be created with CSS languages

Due to the different ways browsers interpret  web languages, there were platform problems with Dynamic HTML

the features can also be made in Flash and so therefore flash websites are becoming more popular.

Flash, Shockwave

Advantage Disadvantage Adobe Flash is a multimedia

authoring application The virtual machine used to run

animation made in Flash The program allows users to create

animations frame by frame using vectors or imported bitmaps

Flash can be used to create animations for entertainment

Can be used to create banners and centre screen advertisements

Can be used to make Flash games and content for mobile phones

blocking Flash content over the internet can cause problems to users who want to use it

It can cause computers to slow down.

Flash is becoming the industry standard for lower end animation

flash focuses more on 2D animation

Page 14: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Shockwave

Advantages Disadvantages

Focuses on 3D animation and streaming videos

Fast rendering engines Shockwave can compile

several types of asset into one multimedia product

Shockwave focuses on 3D graphics

streaming videos and has a faster rendering engine

The requirement for the users is to download and install extra software for their browser

QuickTime

Advantage Disadvantage Every players that uses it are

free. it is a format that plays videos

which can be used online as well as being downloaded.

it is accessible on most mobile devices that have internet access

It allows you to start watching the video before the whole file has downloaded. it may begin to buffer if you catch up to or go beyond what has been downloaded.

You will need a streaming server to host the download

The bandwidth quality will determine the quality of the clip or animation.

Real player

Advantage Disadvantage

It is compatible with several formats within the multimedia realm

it is also available for other operating systems

(RealAudio Player) It was one of the first media players capable of streaming media over the Internet.

Version11 allows users to transfer video, music and photos between their computers and mobile devices

It is not the best option available so there really is no point using this format.

It requires a very powerful computer to run it smoothly.

TOOLS IN FLASH – P4

Tools in flash are mainly the command keys and attribute that you can do and access once on flash. Most play very important roles during use of flash.

Page 19: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Frames

Frames are an essential tool in flash, they're used to enhance your view of your vision/ perspective of how your product/development in flash. It help you have more precise image and better quality.

It is also used to help you make further and in detail adjustments.

Page 20: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Layers

Layers are very essential and effective in flash due to the fact that it helps you separate the features of the animation whether it being a game, short animation or a video.

Layers allows you to separate each one to allow the user to change features of each one without them clashing with each other as well as being able to make selected one be transparent to allow you to focus on one layer of the entire animation at a time.

Page 21: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Controls

Just like every other operational system the controls are the most essential part of flash, the basic controls on flash are found around the screen and others are found once open by another control function.

Page 22: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Tweenings Tweenings is used in three different motion, shape, classic

tween. They’re are all commonly known for there own specific functions.

A motion tween animates symbols to move automatically by inputting one object then move it to another position/place and the tween will shift/move the object to the last set position. on the other hand, shape tweens perform distortions on shapes/vector graphics that are not symbols, it is used to connect two different shapes from two different key frame. The tween will perform whatever calculations and morphs needed to transform the first shape into the second.  A classic tween works the way old motion tweens did, you have to create all the key frames and connect all of them with motion tweens that followed point A to point B, in other words a shape tween is a transformation tween.

Buttons

Buttons are important in flash due to their main function which is to do one function. you can have several buttons with individual functions but you can never have one button with multiple functions.

Buttons is a more basic but effective device within flash, it is most commonly used to; play, stop, pause, mute, next page, previous pages, as well as scroll up and scroll down arrows on the side and bottom of each page ( that requires an extension of its webpage ). Those are just a few of the main functions of a ‘button’ but there are countless others

Page 24: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Preloaders

Preloaders are like progress bars. They allow the user to view the percentage of loading of the file or document, some are interactive that allow you to interact with them to allow you to pass the time without you getting bored as well as giving you something to watch while you wait… most commonly found at the beginning of games and applications an example of this would be after you press the ‘Adobe Flash Professional CS5’ as well as in the ‘halo series’ the large ring that lights up in a circular motion till it reaches the beginning again. It loads up faster when it is almost finished or has very little left to do.

Page 25: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Scripts

(Action-)- scripts are extremely important/essential due to the fact that it is the language was designed specifically for Web site animation. It is a type of object-oriented programming, which means it can be used by developers to create onscreen environments such as games, tutorials, and e-commerce applications. It is like a platform for a specified group of functions, it supports many different levels of quality dependant on what the OS is capable of operating on as well as what OS the on screen was developed on.

Animate rollovers

Animate rollovers are practically the result that activates when your mouse hovers over an interactive icon. The most common rollover is the pointer, mover and the index finger

The mover is the default indicator to show you where it is placed and direction it is moving in

Page 29: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

Email attachments

Email attachments are just documents that you add onto your email to skip rewriting it in the email as well as reference files or documents to colleagues or work partners to avoid having to write it individually to each.

You use attach file to attach documents of all sizes to the email.

You use attach item to attach small informational documents such as business cards, calendars

Page 30: Movement, Morphing, Masking P1 – Computer Animation

E-cards

An e card is editing a video or clip and adding a picture which will go on top of something within the original video. For example you could use it to put a picture of your friends face in the exact position of a famous individuals head your friends head will need to be bigger than the original individuals head due to the fact that the person might have

Consideration that should be made for

PDA - They should allow the animation to be viewable/accessible via PDA with the same visual quality that is shown on a computer/laptop as well as trying to reduce the amount of memory needed to view and use the animation.

Mobile phone – they should allow the animation to be viewable from the screen of a mobile phone as well as allow the user to be able to interact with the animation rather than them being denied access due to them requesting it on a handheld device.

Monitor – Allow it to play repeatedly with both a stop and play button beside it As well as ensuring that the site is a secure and fairly easy to locate and ensure that their be a volume bar next to the animation if it produces sound. Don’t automatically set to the highest setting in case the monitors weren't built for that quality
