CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE 2.1 Definition of Speakin g Maxom, (2009:183) said that speaking is the most important skill in English language teaching. It’s almost impossible to have true mastery of a language without actually speaking it. So it’s necessary to get your students chatting, arguing and generally wagging their tongues in English. Speaking is just like the process of  building and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols, in a var iet y of con texts. The oth er def ini tio n of speaking is the acti on of con vey ing information or expressing one's thoughts and feelings in spoken language or the activity of delivering speeches or lectures or  public speaking ( The Oxford Pocket Dic tio nar y of Cur rent Eng lish, 200 9:3 65) . Speaki ng can also be con sid ered as a crucial part of second and foreign language learning and teaching. Despit e it s importance, for ma ny years, teach ing speaki ng ha s been undervalued and English language teachers have continued to teach speaking just as a repetition of drills or memorization of dialogues. However, today's world requires that the goal of teaching speaking should improve students' communicative skills,  because, only in that way, students can express themselves and learn how to follow the social and cultural rules appropriate in each communicative circumstance. Maxom, (200 9:193 ) added that we begin speak ing long before we learn to re ad or wr ite. It is th e second skill we ac qu ir e while learning a lang ua ge. Conv ersati ons and dialogues are the basic skills to master which if truth be told not many people master in a lifetime. Most of us damn ourselves the moment we open
