Laboratory Safety
Safety Rules Always follow the teacher’s
instructions and only perform labs when the teacher is present.
No horseplay in the lab.
Don’t touch equipment and chemicals until instructed to do so.
Do not eat food, drink beverages, or chew gum in the lab. Laboratory glassware should not be used as food or
beverage containers.
Report ALL accidents to the teacher immediately.
Safety in the workplace is always important at your illegal meth lab.
Proper Lab Attire
Hair If you have long hair, tie it back.
Clothing No baggie or loose clothing. Clothes should cover as much of your
body as possible. Wear close-toed shoes; do not wear
sandals. Take off jewelry and watches when
performing a lab.

Goggles Goggles are worn at all times during a
lab. Glasses do not count as goggles.
Contacts Inform the teacher and lab partner that
you wear contacts. You do not have to take your contacts
out, but you will still have to wear goggles.

Glassware
Never use chipped or broken glassware. Notify the teacher of any broken
glassware so it can be disposed of properly.
Always clean glassware when starting a lab.
Hot glass looks the same as cold glass. Use tongs to handle heated
glassware.
Test Tubes
Always use a test tube clamp to hold test tubes.
When heating a test tube, point the open end away from yourself and others.
Heating Equipment Use hot plates to heat
flammable liquids.
Never leave hot plates, lit Bunsen burners, and candles unattended.
Turn off all heating equipment when not in use.
Do not leave flammable materials near open flames.
Working With Chemicals Never use chemicals from
unlabeled containers.
Never return unused chemicals back to their original containers.
Work in a well ventilated area and never inhale fumes directly. Use the fume hood when working with
poisonous vapors.
Waste Disposal
Always ask your teacher where and how to dispose of waste and chemicals.
Never pour anything down the drain unless instructed to do so.
A waste container will be supplied for chemicals that can not go down the drain.
Accidents and Injuries
Report all accidents and injuries to the teacher immediately!
Be aware of the safety hazards associated with the chemicals used during a lab.
