RECENT PROJECTS National Publicity Since 2003, Mary has been part of the media team promoting the world’s largest medical meeting, the scientific assembly of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). Her work includes crafting news releases and pitching national press on cutting-edge research that has resulted in media coverage around the globe, from Newsweek magazine, CNN and the BBC to the Washington Post and New York Times. Science and Tech Transfer Stories Mary is a contributing writer to the Better World Project, a collection of successful technology transfer stories published by the Association of University Technnology Managers at http://www.betterworldproject.org/Background_Information.htm . The project shares inventions borne in academic laboratories that have been successfully commercialized and are now benefitting millions of people around the world. Since 2008, Mary has interviewed scientists from universities across the country—including Brigham Young, the University of Virgina, the University of California— Berkley, Emory, Yale and Indiana University—on a wide range of inventions from a lab-on-a-chip and poultry feed additives to a new cultivar of sweet potato, genetic testing for stem cell transplants, water testing devices and a new immunotherapy to treat cancer. Mary is a major contributor of content to the site (www.radiologyinfo.org) and an expert at translating technical and scientific information into understandable language for healthcare consumers and patients.

Mary has assisted the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, an international scientific and professional organization, in educating the public on the role molecular imaging plays in treating a variety of diseases. For SNMMI, Mary has created a series of fact sheets for consumers and health professionals as well as a complete, award-winning website called Discover Molecular Imaging.

Medical Feature Story Writing Mary is a regular contributor to RSNA News, the news magazine of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), an international society of radiologists, medical physicists and other medical professionals with more than 54,000 members from 136 countries across the globe. Mary has interviewed radiologists and researchers on topics such as the utilization of medical imaging, radiology education and developments in imaging technologies including fMRI and point-of-care ultrasound. Establishing a New Medical ClinicMary was part of a committee that established a free medical clinic for 13,000 residents in south central Indiana. She planned and implemented a highly successful communications effort to introduce and promote the clinic, including collateral materials, a website and media relations campaign, which helped recruit 400 volunteers, enroll thousands of eligible patients and supported a $1.5 million fundraising campaign.

Business Writing AwardMary received the Award of Excellence for a Business Strategy Story in the 2005 Ragan Recognition Awards. The winning story on the spend management initiatives of the Fortune 500-company Diebold, Inc. appeared on the cover of the company’s magazine Connect, which is read by 13,000 associates around the world.

Newspaper Writing

For the Business Network, a publication of the daily newspaper The Herald-Times and the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, Mary has tackled articles on entrepreneurism and the growing life sciences industry

Public Relations ManagementMary provided public relations services at the $1.6 billion Second National Bank in Ohio for six years, garnering local and national media coverage and creating the bank’s first website. In addition, she provided media training, crisis communications planning and new branch promotion. Mary’s career also includes managing the public relations activities of St. John Westshore, a two-hospital healthcare system in Cleveland, including special events, media relations and editing a community newsletter with a circulation of 90,000.
