I have been in the education field for 22 years and teaching for 17. This is my third year at Spalding STEM Academy. I received my bachelors in Behavioral Science from Ashford University and my Masters in Education from Azusa Pacific University. I have taught 1st-5th, 6-8th and 11-12th grade. I am married and have two children. My daughter is 17 and my son is 12. I have many hobbies that range from all sorts of crafts (including sewing), shopping, cooking, and baking. I also love the outdoors. I love hiking, kayaking, and camping, white water rafting. I am so excited to be here!

I am so excited to be partnering with you on your child's academic journey. I am committed to doing whatever it takes to be the best teacher I can be for your student. I believe in teaching to the child as a whole; which means that I will care not only for their academics, but their character development as well. I believe as a team (you, your child, and I), we can ensure that your student can be the best that they can be. Thank you for letting me partner with you on this journey, called 4th grade. I have high expectations for our class to be

the best that they can be.

To get students’ attention ring door bell. All students should stop what theare doing and look at you silently.

For Reading we use the District wide Journey’s curriculum. We will have weekly vocabulary with each story. They will be assessed each week on there reading skills learned for each story. The close reader is key. Your students will be amazing at citing and annotating. In addition to the curriculum we will be using Fab 4 a comprehension tool.

In fourth grade we do a lot of writing. We will be doing multiple paragraph essays. We practice the concept of R.A.C.E.S. Major writing projects this year will include: Biography Report and an Influential Person of Idaho Report. We will learn all types of writing genres.

We use the district wide Engage New York curriculum. Key concepts for 4th

grade will be division, multiplication, and fractions. We will be focusing on getting our multiplication facts mastered.

We will be using the district wide curriculum: Mystery Science. We will also learn to code a computer game and some other really neat science concepts with Project Lead the Way (PLTW). We will be doing a lot of STEM activities as well.

4th Grade history is so fun! It is all about Idaho. We will learn about many interesting Idaho facts. We will learn about: Geography, American Indian Tribes, Exploring Idaho, Settling Idaho, the Path to Statehood, and Idaho today. We will also be participating in a Living Museum at the end of the year celebrating Influential People of Idaho and Rendezvous.

Homework is due every THURSDAY and comes home on FRIDAY

Practice and Evidence assignments will go in the grade book. Evidence assignments are the only assignments that will give weight to a grade. All evidence pieces will come home with a stamp that says Evidence. This year the district is switching to a Proficiency Scale grading system. You will see grade as 0-4. The easiest way to know what the scores mean is:

2: Approaching the grade level standard3: At Grade Level – (Where we want 100% of the students to be)3.5: Starting to apply above Grade level concepts4: Above Grade level (very rare)

*** Note: Most students start out in the 2 range- This is a good thing ☺***
