Planning for September The guidance from the Department for Educa-tion was released yesterday and as we had hoped, schools will be able to open for all year groups in September. This news comes as a great relief to us as it means we can finally welcome all children back in to school together. There is still much planning to be done. Each school is required to work on a risk assessment specifically for their own setting and will be re-quired to follow a system of controls designed to provide protective measures and reduce the risks of infection for both children and staff. These will include:

Continuing with extra hand washing and extra cleaning

Parents and staff fully engaging with the NHS test and trace process, being willing to book a test if displaying symptoms, provide details of all close contacts if the test is positive and agreeing to self isolate for 14 days if they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.

Ensuring that an unwell child does not attend school and sending anyone home if they start to display high temperature, new cough or loss of taste or smell

Keeping children together in consistent groups and avoiding contact between these groups.

Minimize sharing of equipment

Avoiding large group gatherings such as assemblies or use of hall during lunch time

Continuing with staggered times for drop off, playtimes, lunchtimes and collection at the end of the day.

Reducing face to face contacts by arranging classrooms where possible so that tables are facing forward

Staff maintaining distance from pupils and other staff as much as possible.

Over the next week we will seek further advice, find the best ways of complying with the re-quired measures whilst still planning for the best possible experiences in school for all chil-dren and staff. Maria Cowler
