Executive Summary/Survey Methodology

The MSPmentor 100 is an annual research report from MSPmentor andits owner, Nine Lives Media Inc. (www.NineLivesMediaInc.com). Instead ofranking MSPs merely by revenue, we calculate an index measurement.

This index approach ensures small, midsize and large MSPs from aroundthe world are recognized on the MSPmentor 100.

Our MSPmentor 100 ranking system considers such variables as: Total managed services revenue (in U.S. dollars, 2009) Managed services revenue growth (in U.S. dollars, 2009 vs. 2008) Managed services revenue growth (percentage, 2009 vs. 2008) Percentage of company revenue from managed services (2009) Number of devices remotely managed (2009) Devices managed growth, actual number (2009) Devices managed percentage growth (2009)

Note: Financial information for international MSPs was convertedto U.S. dollars

Call for Submissions: The survey was promoted on MSPmentor andTheVARGuy.com, our social media destinations (FaceBook, LinkedIn andTwitter) and various social media locations.

Survey Timing: The survey ran from October 19 through Dec. 11, 2009.Of the nearly 1,200 survey submissions we received, 191 of themrepresented MSPs with at least $1 million in annual managed servicesrecurring revenue. The results were published February 10, 2010 onMSPmentor.net and disclosed on a corresponding webcast.

Confidentiality

This report includes much but not all of the survey data. In order togather reliable financial data, Nine Lives Media Inc. agreed not to disclosespecific annual revenue information (i.e., revenue dollars). We reservedthe right, however, to publish company growth rates based on the privaterevenue information.

Top 10 Financial and Business Trends Worth Noting

1. Annual Managed Services Revenues: While managed services revenuecontinues to expand, economic issues triggered slower growth for our 2010MSPmentor 100 members vs. 2009 members. Total recurring revenue for the 100

member companies was $702 million in 2009, up 31% from $536 million in 2008.

2. Overall Company Growth: As a whole, the MSPmentor 100 companies liftedtheir top-line revenues by 22 percent in 2009 vs. 2008. As with previousMSPmentor reports, recurring revenue continues to grow faster than top-linerevenue for most MSPs.

3. Company Size: Of the 191 survey participants that generated at least $1million in annual managed services revenue:

94 had at least $1.5 million in annual recurring revenue 85 had at least $2.5 million in annual recurring revenue

63 had at least $3.0 million in annual recurring revenue

50 had at least $4.0 million in annual recurring revenue 38 had at least $5.0 million in annual recurring revenue 23 had at least $7.5 million in annual recurring revenue 16 had at least $10.0 million in annual recurring revenue 8 had at least $20.0 million in annual recurring revenue

4. Devices Managed: As a whole, the MSPmentor 100 companies were undercontract to remotely manage 746,897 devices/seats in 2009, up 24 percentfrom 601,986 devices/seats in 2008. This represents slower growth vs.previous years. For instance, device management growth from 2007 to 2008was 146 percent.

5. Tweet This: Social media communications continue to climb. Nearly 30percent of MSPmentor 100 survey participants have Twitter accounts for theirbusinesses.

more MSPs with SaaS expertise and focus, lifting SaaS results acrossthe board but slightly decreasing results for some of the moretraditional managed services -- such as managed security and remoteadministration.

10. Master MSP Reality Check: Nearly 20 percent of survey participants saythey are a master MSP -- offering services to peer VARs and MSPs.However, MSPmentor is tracking only about a dozen successful masterMSPs.

Frankly, we remain skeptical of broad master MSP industry claims. MSPmentoris only aware of a handful of master MSPs that have achieved critical mass.Examples include Do IT Smarter, MSP Services Network, Ingram Micro Seismic,Virtual Administrator and Zenith Infotech. And in most cases, these master MSPsare quite different in terms of the markets they service and the options they offerto VARs and aspiring MSPs.

Key Trend: Software as a Service (SaaS) and Cloud Reality Checks

Shortly before publishing this report, MSPmentor asserted that the cloud industryhas reached its bubble. Some cloud-centric companies will succeed. Many willfail. The market noise seems overwhelming.

Still, there are success stories and clear trends. MSPmentor 100 surveyparticipants increasingly promote SaaS and cloud options to their customers,including hosted/SaaS email (67.7%, up from 57.9% in 2008); hosted/SaaSSharePoint (36%, up from 29.3% in 2008) and hosted/SaaS CRM (18.9%,essentially flat vs, 2008.)

At the same time, 21.7% of survey participants now promote Google Apps to

their customers, 6.7% are embracing Amazon Simple Storage Service and 5.5%are making moves toward Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.

MSPmentor believes that MSPs should be testing at least one cloud or SaaSopportunity as a potential revenue generator. But we also believe a cloudshakeout will begin in late 2010 or early 2011.

International Spotlight: Roughly 24 percent of survey participants representedmanaged service providers outside of the United States. Thirteen (13) companiesoutside the U.S. landed on the final MSPmentor 100 list. But dozens more --located in Europe, Australia and South Africa, in particular, showed stronggrowth. Conclusions

MSPmentor 100 companies held up well during the economic crisis, posting$702 million in combined recurring revenues for 2009, up 31% from $536 millionin 2008. Still, growth slowed in the managed services market. Our previousMSPmentor 100 list, for instance, revealed 40%+ growth.

In recent months, MSPs have pushed beyond remote management andmonitoring to increasingly offer or promote SaaS applications. Also of note, topMSPs are reporting that their most recent wins involve target customers that haddeclined service contracts in 2008, or customers that had previously selected alow-cost service provider.

We continue to see increased competition between some MSP softwareproviders and MSP service providers, particularly in the area of MicrosoftBusiness Productivity Online Suite (BPOS), where hosted Exchange, hostedSharePoint and other Microsoft applications are available directly from Microsoft.
