Dear friends!We are glad to welcome you and present our University MSTU «Stankin» in this

booklet. We hope that getting acquainted with the given information will attract your attention and awake your interest in participating joint collaboration between MSTU «Stankin» and your University. We expect that you personally would like to know more about education and research work in our educational institution.

Today our university is one of the leading technological universities in Russia that train engineers and research workers for various branches of machine-building complex as well as specialists in the sphere of informational technologies, economics and management. Students and post graduates from Russian and Foreign countries (situated nearby and abroad) are trained in our University. MSTU «Stankin» cooperates with the leading European and Asian technical universities, implementing various joint projects and programs in the field of education and science. MSTU «Stankin» is always open for fruitful cooperation, and we will be happy to see you intra muros (within the walls) of our university.

MSTU «Stankin» was founded in 1930. University status and the present were assigned to it in 1992. Today MSTU «Stankin» is the leading scientific and educational institution focused on training highly qualified specialists for different branches of machine-building complex.

The university is training about 5000 students (10% from 18 overseas countries). There are 4 hostels for non-residents.

All faculties offer full-time (day) and part-time (evening) forms of education. The current rating system allows the university to assess student’s knowledge, not only during the examination session, but all academic year through. This system helps to maintain a high level of educational process. All graduates get a state diploma.

More than 600 lecturers, among them 100 Doctors and Professors, 340 associate professors and PhDs, are prominent scientists and well-versed specialists of different levels. The teaching staff of MSTU «Stankin» consists of highly experienced professionals, many of them have won the state and public recognition, seven of them are the Lenin Prize and State awards laureates, ten - Honorary Scientists of Russian Federation, twenty-five - Government prizes honorees and prominent scientists nominal prizes awardees, forty - were entitled the Higher Professional Education Honorary Employees.

A number of University new training and research laboratories along with centers have been equipped with modern technological facilities in concert with foreign partners (firms COOK, KEB, FESTO, etc.) New educational technologies based on using advanced multimedia classrooms were implemented into the educational process. The number of classrooms is constantly increasing; audiences are equipped in accordance with the modern requirements for the educational process.

MSTU «Stankin» pays great attention to international cooperation expansion as one of the most important factors that determines prospects for further University developing.

In the sphere of education and research activities MSTU «Stankin» pursue contacts with 20 universities in such countries as Germany, UK, Australia, Finland, Hungary, Poland, China and others.

This major educational centre has established its own research schools, conducted intensive methodological work and continuously improved the teaching process. edUcATioNAl ProGrAMS STANKIN is one of the first Universities (1994) that introduced a multilevel

system that comprises Bachelors’, Masters’ and specialists’ training and has been successfully educating students with degrees and diplomas for over 15 years.

BAchelor’S deGreeBachelor’s education lasts 4 years. Throughout the curriculum students acquire

basic university and engineering education, master first special disciplines. On finishing education, students are assigned Bachelor’s degree in one of the chosen areas. Then students complete their training course and work as undergraduates with Bachelor’s degree or continue studying in order to obtain Master’s degree.

MASTer’S deGreeTo obtain the Master’s degree students study for 2 years, to acquire profound

knowledge and skills in basic and special disciplines. At the end of education students defend a dissertation (thesis) for a degree. Students with Master’s degree have advantages to apply for PhD.

PoSTGrAdUATe SchoolMSTU «Stankin» trains scientific-pedagogical staff and research workers within

the framework of postgraduate professional education, which is conducted in the form of postgraduate studies, doctoral studies. Job search assistance is provided as well. Postgraduate course qualifies academic staff in six fields of science (Engineering, Physics and Mathematics, Economics, Philosophy, Sociology and Pedagogy) and 22 scientific specialties. There are two forms of education – full time and correspondence. Standard period of study in postgraduate school is 3 years (full-time form) and 4 years (correspondence form). Admission is carried out on a competitive basis according to the results of entrance examinations. Entrance examinations are held in the form of examination sessions (up to four times a year).

SecoNd hiGher edUcATioN. iidiTInter-branch Institute for Development of Innovative Technologies (IIDIT)

offers wide variety of educational services ranging from short-term courses of advanced training to programs of additional to higher education qualification, including the MBA program.

The University implements the following educational MBA programs «MBA Production Management», «MBA - Strategic management» and «MBA - Information Management», training period is 2.5 years. Additional higher economic education with a specialization in «Economy and management at the

enterprise.». Training period is 2.5 years. Additional higher technical education with a specialization in «Computer Engineering and Computer-Aided Systems Software”

«Training period is 2.5 years.

The dePArTMeNT of foreiGN lANGUAGeS ANdThe ceNTer of AddiTioNAl liNGUiSTic edUcATioN

The Department has successfully been teaching students and post graduates English, French and German since the first years of MSTU «Stankin» existence. In1997 the Linguistic Center was set up at the Department. Since then the Linguistic Centre has been providing high standard foreign languages teaching to MSTU «Stankin» students. In 2003 first diplomas were delivered to students who successfully completed the whole course of training. English, German and French are being taught by highly qualified, experienced and friendly lecturers. Third year students along with higher education can get additional language competence «Translator in the sphere of professional communication.» University Graduates with additional qualification are in great demand in the labor market, highly rated at enterprises and institutions of Russia and abroad.

Effective courses design and arrangement on “Introduction to Linguistics”, “Basic Theory of the Language” “Language Practice”, “Lexis”, “Grammar”, “russian language Stylistics and elocation” and such special disciplines as “Theory of Translation”, ”Practical Course of Professional Translation” “Technical Translation”, “Patent Translation” “Business Course ”, “Language of Media” and “Country-Specific Studies” ensure rapid progress in acquiring key translation and communication skills. CALE graduates receive an additional diploma to the one of state higher professional education.

Teaching russian as a foreign language started in MSTU «Stankin» in 1948. The Russian language section staff has a great experience of the Russian language training for specialists from different spheres: engineers, bank employees, economists, sociologists, philologists etc.

Students from Romania, Germany, France, Austria, USA, Cuba, Morocco, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Mongolia, Vietnam, China, India and Pakistan had a course of training Russian here.

The lecturers of Russian are high class professionals with linguistic degrees. They have great experience of working in a foreign audience in Russia and abroad. All lecturers take part in Russian and foreign conferences and symposiums, are awarded Euro Union grants (e.g. «Quality Education»). All pedagogical staff is very well aware of the latest innovative methods in the sphere of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The lecturers themselves are new generation text books authors and initiators of new methods for training foreigners with profound overview of

modern achievements in linguistics, psychology and cognitive linguistics. For the period 2000-2011 there were published more than 150 scientific articles and textbooks, as well as dictionaries and monographs. All basic textbooks (course books and workbooks) are written by lecturers themselves. They are very efficient and are being renovated according to new life actuality and methods requirements. Many of them are well-known all over the world. Apart from other linguistic courses, presenting study material by communicative method without translation into mother tongue or interim language, these editions supply all grammatical notes and basic texts with translation into English.

All the courses are interconnected and are based on systematic grammatical approach. The students are not offered learning common expressions used in everyday situations, but speaking Russian, expressing ideas and understanding Russian-speaking people. There is a unique chance to have classes with the text-books authors!

individual classes are availableIndividual courses can be booked throughout the year. For beginners, there is a

course book Zolotoe Koltso (A Golden Ring), which has been certified and used in the university for over ten years. During this period feedback from teachers and students has been analyzed and many corrections have been introduced. Both team and individual training is available. Individual classes are efficient at high degree of intensity 20 or 30 lessons per week (not less than 4 hours a day) for rather a long time (for a month or longer) Every would-be may start training any time.

There are three levels of common competence of Russian.elementary (А1) – 40-60 hours;Basic (А2) – 6 weeks, 120 hours;The first certified level (level B 1) a minimum of 1 semester, not less than 20 hours a week. Provided basic level has been passed.

And the language for special purposes: - Russian for engineers- Russian for economistsThese courses are provided to students having a good command of Russian

after finishing Basic the First or the Second certified courses. For entering Russian university it is necessary to have not less than 200 hours

classes of future specialty.After achieving level B1 applicants may become Russian universities first year

students, have classes together with native students and acquire professional skills

and habits using knowledge of the Russian language.

With the first days of learning Russian all students take part in socio-cultural activities, have an opportunity for practicing Russian in class, socializing with native speakers, getting more information about Russian history and life in Moscow.

They visit museums, theatres, concerts, participate in festivals and get acquainted with Russian national traditions and customs.

iNTerNATioNAl cooPerATioNMSTU «STANKIN» carries out research work and draw up educational

For the period of eighty years Departments of the Faculty have been turning out highly qualified specialists of basic engineering sectors and have all necessary resources to implement the functions necessary for training and reproducing workforce able to solve strategic problems targeting to technological rearmament of Russia.

The faculty turns out all-level educated specialists: certified engineers, engineers, Bachelors, Masters. Training is being financed from state budget. Students who are taught according to the fifteenth concept for the enlarged group of specialties and have high rating receive higher scholarships. For non-residents and foreign students who are taught at the ETE faculty there is a hostel within five minutes walk from the university.

Many university laboratories, research and educational centers with modern equipment: laboratory of resource-saving technologies, the center of physical and technological research, educational computer center, «Computer Design», State Engineering Center, State Inter-academic Center of labor and environmental safety, etc. are at student’s disposal.

Senior students have an opportunity to combine study with well-paid job in university research and education centers.

After graduating they are able to pursue postgraduate studies and after thesis defending – in the doctorate. |

Graduates of the faculty traditionally have deep knowledge of basic and applied sciences, economics, information technology and management.
