CHAPTER THIRTEEN ACHIEVING AND ENSURING BUSINESS PROCESS ACCEPTANCE FOR SYSTEMS AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT MUSTAFA DEGERLI AND SEVGI OZKAN Abstract Business processes related with systems and software engineering and management business practices are truly invaluable assets for organizations developing or acquiring systems and software. However, unless business processes are accepted by employees in organizations and thereby implemented to achieve targeted cost, quality, scope, and schedule objectives for projects and organizations, all efforts for business processes are going to be nothing more than wasting time, efforts, and money. Hence, in organizations, employees’ acceptance of business processes is crucial and required. To address this issue, we developed a model for the acceptance of business processes by employees. In this context, we developed an authentic questionnaire to collect data from people having interactions with certain process-focused models and standards used for improvements of systems and software engineering and management business processes. After reviews, refinements and piloting, we deployed the questionnaire and collected 368 usable-responses. We principally applied the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS SEM) approach. Consequently, we developed the model with 18 imperative factors and their statistically significant relationships. Furthermore, we developed a checklist to test and promote the acceptance of business processes. Both the model and pertinent checklist are truly beneficial for business process definition, deployment, implementation, and maintenance activities related with systems and software engineering and management. This chapter provides details for the development of the model, and explanation and practical interpretation of the model and the pertinent checklist.TRANSCRIPT
