Academic Corner The fabulous 1WT

WOW! What a year it has been in 1WT. It has been a challenging year but together we have worked hard to get through it. In 1WT this term we have been learning about Weather and Space. We have enjoyed putting together some fantastic artworks about this topic.

In maths we have been learning about 3D objects. We made some models of 3D objects using playdoh and toothpicks. We love using hands-on materials during maths lessons. We have enjoyed starting Aboriginal games with Mr Stutch and look forward to learning more throughout the term. We cannot wait to see what the next 7 weeks have in store for us before we move on to Year 2!

Check out the photos on Facebook of 1WT participating in Maths rotations! They are superstars when it comes to Maths!

Music Count Us In! Celebration Day 2020 will take place on 5 November 2020

Celebration Day brings together hundreds of thousands of school children from all over Australia as they connect via livestream to perform the same song, on the same day, at the same time! MPS students will gather in the Top Quad to

sing, sign and play instruments together to the same song at the same time! Kindergarten will be performing body actions with rainbow streamers, Year 1 & 2 students will be performing body percussion, Year 3 and 5/6K students

will be signing AUSLAN sign language, Year 4 students will be performing stick percussion, and Year 5 & 6 will be drumming using buckets, ice cream containers and tissue boxes! All at the same time!

The whole school will then follow our Year 3 and 5/6K students in signing AUSLAN sign language to the song, and then as part of our NAIDOC week lessons, the students will be singing Wajarri Indigenous language to the Yamatji Remix of

the song. They are all so clever!

It should be such a fun celebration! Here are some photos of classes practicing for the day.

In order to maintain the safety of students and staff here at MPS the gates will no longer be opened prior to the bell going in the afternoons. The gates will be opened by the staff member on duty at that gate. This change applies to the gates at both Newman Street entrances. If you need to enter the school, please enter through the front gate on Roger Street and sign-in at the front office.

COVID – 19 Please protect the health and safety of students and staff.

• Parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. • Students who present at school as unwell or have flu like symptoms will be sent home. Arrangements will need to be made to be tested

for COVID - 19. • Students and staff with flu-like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to

return to school. • Alternatively students who are unable to be tested for COVID-19 must be excluded from school for a period of 10 days before returning,

and MUST have been symptom free for a period of 3 days before returning.

We ask that you advise the school if your child is unwell. This can be done by phoning the office or submitting an absentee form through the Skoolbag app.

2021 Kindergarten transition Program

Commencing Yesterday – Monday 2nd November2020 Schools have been advised that Kindergarten orientation and transition to school can now resume for students with strict guidelines.
