“Experience small town America in historic downtown Newberg. For visitors descending into the green Chehalem Valley from Portland, it’s the first stop in their tour of Oregon wine country. For locals, it’s our living room, a friendly place where we gather to work, shop and play. No matter who you are, you are welcome downtown. Come see what we have to offer!” –From the City website

“Sprucing up downtown to get people to stop…”
• Colorful summer wildflowers, planted as a beautification project along 99W and in downtown wine barrel planter boxes.
• Nearly a dozen wine tasting rooms. Yes, in Newberg itself, not in the vineyards surrounding the city.
• Interesting, unique lodging a short walk from downtown. Latest is The Painted Lady Guest Cottage, next door to its restaurant. The Lions Gate Inn is a grand, century-old craftsman-style bed-and-breakfast, impeccably decorated, across the street from what has become the gem of Newberg.

With your team
Brainstorm a list of ideas (at least 3 per site) for both sites, keeping in mind these questions:
1. Who is going to use this space? (clientele)
2. What type of business is going to be a “good fit” for the space available?
3. How will the proposed business impact and connect with the surrounding and pre-existing businesses?
With your team
Review your ideas and pick one “star choice” for each site. Remember to keep in mind the following questions:
1. Who is going to use this space? (clientele)2. What type of business is going to be a “good fit”
for the space available? 3. How will the proposed business impact and
connect with the surrounding and pre-existing businesses?
With your team
Now that you know the site and business idea you will be working with, your team will need to formulate a presentation for the class and city planners that explains your idea.
Complete the “Design Star Rough Draft” form with your team and then schedule a time to review your plan with your teacher
