MVTS Pro software consists of two functional sub-systems:

• Traffic Manager • Traffic Switch

23

MVTS Pro Architecture components

Traffic manager is a protocol agnostic core of the system and the focal point of the system’s intellect. It is responsible for:

- Routing

- Statistics

- Operation monitoring and operator alerting

Traffic switch handles VoIP calls under the control of Traffic Manager and generates call session data. It is responsible for:

- Protocol translation and normalization

- Codec conversion

- Registration of devices

- NAT traversal

Page 24: MVTS PRO

24

Traffic Switch: Load Balancer/H.323 Gatekeeper/SIP Registrar

• Single entry point for interconnection with peering partners and corporate networks

• Network topology concealment

• Centralized workload distribution for easy and enhanced scalability

• SIP/H.323 Registration requests processing

• Call Agent to control ETSI/ITU ISUP (SIGTRAN)*, MGCP protocols

• RAS registration for interconnection with corporate networks

• Protocol normalization to ensure interworking between protocol versions and dialects

• Seamless interoperability with multi-vendor equipment

*National dialects are available on demand

Page 25: MVTS PRO

25

Traffic Switch: Signaling and Media Proxy

Signaling only proxy

• Efficient use of the system's switching capability • Native support of SIP, H.323, SIP-T/I, ETSI/ITU ISUP

(SIGTRAN)*, MGCP signaling• H.323/SIP/ ETSI/ITU ISUP(SIGTRAN)* conversion• Protocol normalization to ensure interworking

between protocol versions and dialects • Fax T.38 pass-through• Active standby (active SIP calls are not lost even

in case of the node failure)• Correct generation of disconnect reason codes

even in case of the proxy device failure

Signaling and Media proxy

• Topology concealment• RTP-proxy can be disabled to increase the

system’s throughput capability• Codec transcoding

MVTS Pro allows carriers to choose a proxy mode for a gateway, destination, or network segment individually. MVTS Pro provides for both full proxy and signaling proxy only operation.

*National dialects are available on demand

Page 26: MVTS PRO

26

MVTS Pro:System’s High Availability Management

Management module performs license distribution, keeps record of system performance and ensures its high availability

Automated distribution of licenses

MVTS Pro allows for automated distribution of the workload to ensure the most efficient use of the switching capacity. In case one of the system element fails, the licenses of the failed component are automatically distributed among the remaining healthy elements (according to a predefined set of rules).

Advanced notification mechanism

The system operator is kept aware of all important issues that occur in the system. User-defined event-handling rules allow the configuration of actions that will be undertaken in response to alert events.

Flexible redundancy schemes

MVTS Pro features a variety of redundancy schemes to enable full reliability. The system’s key modules are subjected to multiple back-up schemes to ensure business-critical dependability and fault-tolerant operation. The implemented scheme depends on the carrier’s needs.

27

Traffic Manager:Functionality Overview

Traffic manager is the focal point of the MVTS Pro intellect that incorporates three types of functional modules:

Routing module, Database and Web Server

• Flexible routing policy• Endpoints registration• Number translation• Traffic dynamics analysis• Real-time QoS control• CDRs processing• Export of accounting data to third-party billing

systems through RADIUS interface• Import and export of data and configuration

updates without interruption of service• Data safety ensured by database backups and

replication

Page 28: MVTS PRO

28

MVTS Pro as an Interconnect SBC

MVTS Pro integrates the functionality of a class 4 softswitch with the key capabilities of a session border controller* for reliable and secure intercarrier communications

* MVTS Pro does not perform media or signaling encryption

Topology hiding

Media traffic management

Fixing capability mismatches

Maintaining SIP-related NAT bindings

Access control

Protocol repair

• Number of the calling/called party • Route ASR • Caller group ID • Day of week/time of day • Priority/accessibility of the destination GW • Routing policies • Gateway/route traffic load

External routing means

• RADIUS API for interaction with external routing systems

• ENUM-based routing • SIP 302, 300-based routing

Page 30: MVTS PRO

30

Accounting Capabilities

CDR (Call Detail Records)• Single point for CDR collection• Exhaustive information for call analysis and

preliminary debugging (Call ID, Disconnect Codes, Connect Time, Elapsed Time, and more)

• All relevant call details for flexible billing• CDRs in plain text format• Export of CDRs into CSV files• CDRs retention ensured by multiple backup schemes

RADIUS API for integration with add-on billing systems

• RADIUS based user authorization• Cisco VSA compliant • Real-time and postpaid billing• Automated call blocking based on account balance

Page 31: MVTS PRO

31

Operation Analysis and Reporting

MVTS Pro provides elaborate analysis tools for real-time call dynamics and QoS monitoring:

• Call statistics by call originators/dialpeers• Call statistics by

destination/GW/terminating equipment• SNMP-aided monitoring of modules

functioning• Real-time monitoring of ASR, QoS, ACD,

disconnect codes etc.• Data collection for debugging• Active calls monitoring

(origination/termination GW, duration, used codecs etc.)

• Traffic Switch runtime statistics (over 100 counters)

• CDR-based call analysis• CDR in plain text format convenient for

analysis and preliminary debugging• CDR filtering by any call parameter

Page 32: MVTS PRO

32

Redundancy Schemes

• Redundancy of all key modules

• Various redundancy schemes in compliance with the network architecture and carrier’s needs

• Individual, comprehensive, multiple redundancy of business-critical modules

• Software updates and capacity increase without interruption of service
