The scene starts with a bare average tree in the forest, a tree that gets over-looked and overall bare. It is shallow and symbolizes the main character’s feeling about just being another face in the crowd. The camera’s focus compared to the other pictures is not as sharp because people tend to blend average-looking faces together, enviably forgetting them. DESCRIPTION

My scene is a love scene. The main character is scared and timid to express his love, but finds hope along the way through being an individual.

I chose, White Flag by Dido, as my song to pair with my visual aesthetics because

not only does the song embrace these photographs, but also engulfs them. The scene

starts with a bare average tree in the forest, a tree that gets over-looked and overall bare.

It is shallow and symbolizes the main character’s feeling about just being another face in

the crowd. The camera’s focus compared to the other pictures is not as sharp because

people tend to blend average-looking faces together, enviably forgetting them. The black

and white color projects the feel of gloom and solitude from the main character. The bare

tree is placed in the center of the photo signifying the clique way of looking at oneself—

average.

The second photo shows the main character looking back at his lost love.

Douglas has always been infatuated with this woman. However, he has yet to be able to

successfully express himself to her. Up to this point in the scene, two girls have been

presented closest in the framing of the photograph and until hope strikes they will remain

the closest. This gives special meaning to them and shows that they mean a great deal to

Douglas.

The main character, in the following photograph appears frustrated and

disappointed in himself. The photograph captures him in the forest full of naked trees;

this conveys the notion that there is no hope. The atmosphere held a feeling of despair

and despondency that was suffocating the area (as seen in the captured moment).

However, in the upper left division of the photo there are three leaves giving rise to hope

for not only the forest to live once more, but also a second chance for Douglas.

The fourth photo shows hope. Up to this point Douglas has not appeared close

in the composition of any photo, now he is. He realizes that he is not average and

individual. He will not go down with the ship, he will not surrender, Douglas is going to

fight, and show this girl that he has what it takes to win her heart over.

The last photo shows a tree, however, unlike the first tree this particular tree is

unlike any tree in the forest. The angle of view is expressed and the photo is composed

only of this special tree; giving raise to the idea that before we can love other we must

love ourselves for who we are. The photograph is also my visual metaphor because

Douglas is unlike any person in the community. As fall ends all the trees lose their leaves

appearing almost “dead,” however this tree never looks dead and is full of life—Douglas

has embraced his individuality; being unique will win over her heart.

I know you think that I shouldn't still love you, Or tell you that.

But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it where's the sense in that?

I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder

Or return to where we were

I will go down with this ship And I won't put my hands up and surrender There will be no white flag above my door

I'm in love and always will be

WHITE FLAG- DIDO
