• Producers are organisms that use photosynthesis to make their food.

• Producers are the base of the food chain/web.

• Examples of producers are… – Grass– Flowers– Trees – Et cetera

Producers

Consumers• Consumers are the organisms that use

other organisms for their source of energy.• The types of consumers are– Primary Consumer-the organism that eats the

producer.– Secondary Consumer-the organism that eats

the primary consumer.– Tertiary Consumer-the organism that eats the

secondary consumer.– Quaternary Consumer-the organism that eats

the tertiary consumer.

Decomposers

• Decomposers are the organisms that use other dead organisms as their source of energy.

• Examples of decomposers are–Mushrooms (Fungi)–Worms– Et cetera

The Types of Organisms

• Herbivores-an organism that ONLY eats plants.

• Carnivore-an organism that ONLY eats meat/animals.

• Omnivores-an organism that eats plants AND animals.

• Abiotic Factors• Biotic Factors

Abiotic Factors

• Abiotic factors are the non-living parts of the environment.

• Examples of abiotic factors are– Rocks– Dirt– Air–Water– Et cetera

Biotic Factors

• Biotic factors are the living parts of the environment.

• Examples of biotic factors are – Plants– Animals– People– Et cetera

3 Compositional Layers

• The earth can be classified in 3 compositional layers. – The Crust-the ground we walk on.– The Mantle- the layer under the crust.– The Core- the actual center of the Earth.

Interior Layers

• The earth can also be classified into 4 interior layers. The definitions are mostly on the Compositional Layers slide.– The Crust– The Mantle– The Outer Core – The Inner Core

Mutualism

• Mutualism is when BOTH organisms in the relationship benefit– An example of mutualism is when an

Egyptian plover picks and eats the parasites and leftover meat from a crocodile's teeth

Commensalism

• Commensalism is when ONE organism in the relationship benefits but the other is unaffected.– An example of commensalism is when a

bird uses a tree or a outdoor light for shelter.

Parasitism

• Parasitism is when the parasite benefits in the relationship but the other, the host, is harmed.– An example of parasitism is when a flea

uses an animal, like a dog, as its source of energy.
