Updat- ing the decor in your home is an easy way to add more color, style and personality to rejuvenate your residence. Whether you're making a few updates, like new artwork or wall colors, or renovating an entire room with a completely new look, decorating should be fun, not stressful. With a few simple tips, you can up the design ante in your home without break- ing the bank. Decorative painting for design Painting can consist of much more than simple strokes of one color. Take things to the next level with decorative painting. Create different patterns on your walls with textured rollers to achieve an artistic design. Sponge and fabric paint rollers provide unique patterns to give your walls a one-of-a-kind look. Low in price and high in design, using textured rollers is a great option for redecorating on a budget. Painting stripes in your room is a refreshing way to update your current color scheme. A sequence of wide and narrow stripes in complementing colors is a stylish option. To achieve crisp, clean lines between each stripe, painter's tape will get the job done. A plethora of plates Artwork is a great way to change things up and give any room a boost. Expensive traditional framed pieces of artwork aren't your only option anymore. Instead, cre- ate an eclectic art piece with plates you already own, or find them at garage sales and antique stores. Opt for various sizes and shapes and attach each one to your wall with plate hooks. You can cover an entire wall, or focus on a smaller area — but before you get started, be sure to lay out your design on the floor first. This way, you'll achieve your desired look, without extra nail holes on the wall from hanging as you go. Perk-up hallways with runners; rooms with rugs While re-energizing your home, the hall- ways may seem a little drab. Add a pick-me-up to your walkway by hanging portraits with funky frames along the walls. Add a runner along the length of the floor for a touch of pizzazz. Runners come in a multitude of lengths, patterns and colors – not to mention price ranges. Updating the flooring will keep your feet cozy and help to diminish the sound of footsteps during the night. If you have a space you want to update, but a full room makeover isn't in your budget, consider an area rug to spruce things up. If the color in your room is dull, the rug can add visual interest and a pop of color, serving as an aesthetically pleasing addition. Area rugs also help to break up the space of a larger room and can add grandeur to a small space. A new rug will also protect your pre-existing carpet, vinyl and hardwood floors, keep- ing them looking newer, longer. Opt for accents as design elements No home redecorating project is complete without a few perfectly placed accents. These interesting items stand out from your primary colors and furniture pieces, offering a fresh look to any space. Accent pieces — like chairs, frames or vases — will spice up a monotonous color scheme, while harmonizing with everything else you may already have in a room. Family Features

Over the last few years, there’s been a growing awareness

that it really matters how food gets from the farm to the table. But not everyone knows much about the process.

The most recent Consumer Trust Research by the Center for Food Integrity found thatonly 23 percent of Americans strongly agree that they have access to all of the infor mation they want about where food comes from, how it is produced and its safety.

Farmers like Shana Beattie and Marie Bolt want to change that by volunteering to partic ipate in the CommonGround program. They’ve joined with other women farmers who want to share their knowledge with the people who buy their farm-raised food.

The Beattie family raises soy-beans, corn, alfalfa, beef and pork. In fact, they raise roughly 8 million pounds of pork annu-ally. That’s enough to feed at least 40,000 Americans for a year.

When seasons change, it's also a good time to change out and update your home decor. Time and budget don't always allow for a complete overhaul, so here are some easy and affordable ways to rejuvenate your home

Reuse, repaint, reupholsterWhen you think creatively, it's easy to give old belongings new life. Paint wooden frames or potted plant holders with new, bold colors to quickly add a hint of color to any area. Reupholster pillows with patterned fabric to liven up any room. Many craft stores sell scrap fabric for a frac-tion of the price. Or, spend even less when you repurpose gently used clothes by turning them into custom pillowcases.

Simple swaps and switchesTry a new take on a traditional favorite. Candles are an easy way to add instant ambiance to any room. New flameless wax candles are a long-lasting alternative that

gives the same beautiful look and feel of traditional candles. Made with real wax, these candles create the same warm glow and realistic flicker of a flame with LEDs that never need replacing. One of the reasons decor can

feel worn and dated is simply because it's familiar to you. And, wall decor is one area that can be particularly pricey to update. An easy way to renew interest in existing mirrors and art is by switching their location in the home. Once it has been relocated to another room, you'll find a new appreciation for something that's been overlooked for years.

Create focal pointsAffordable accessories are a simple way to update your space and help create focal points and pops of color throughout each room. Consider hanging differ-ent-sized picture frames together in clusters above a large piece of furniture, like a table, sofa or bed. Grouping frames creates one

piece of eye-catching artwork to spark conversation. For a more vibrant look, paint frames in vari-ous bright colors. For a sophisti-cated look, stick with a uniform

color of all white or black. With a little imagination, it's

easy and affordable to spruce up your space and add ambiance to your home everyday.

Easy and Affordable Ways to Spruce Up Your Space

Home Connection

to enthrall while entertaining or a lamp base in a complementary color on your console. Keep in mind accents are meant to speak for themselves; so there's no need to have another elaborate piece in the room. Just one affordable piece is all it takes.

When the redecorating bug bites, embrace the opportunity to freshen up your home inexpen-sively. With a pinch of creativity and a dash of design inspiration, you can easily make over any space into one that's perfect for you.

Solution to crossword on page 2.

Take Care of YOUWhen was the last time you took some time to just take care of you? By taking care of yourself, you can then offer your child the best version of you. You’ll feel better about yourself, who you are as a parent and you’ll have much more energy to take part in the things that you child loves.

Spoil with LoveYou can never spoil a child with too much love. Never let a day go by without hugging, kissing and telling them just how much you love them. This will make a huge difference in how they see themselves and the security that they feel within their home.

Recognize StrengthsDo you know what your child does exceptionally well? It is so important that as a parent you become aware of just how gifted your child is. When you catch them doing something really well or doing something that just comes naturally to them, encour-age them and help build their self-esteem at the same time.

Be HappyChildren take it to heart when mom and/or dad are not happy, stressed, grumpy, etc. Not only does your mood affect them, but they wonder if your sadness and/or stress is because of them. Do everything you can to be happy

when you are with your children.

Learn to Play AgainGo ahead; be goofy with your children. Dance as if no one is watching, make funny faces, get dirty, be a kid again! You’ll brighten up your child’s face!

Don’t CompareOne of the most detrimental things we can do to our children is comparing them to another child, whether it is a sibling, relative or friend. Do whatever it takes to encourage your child’s individuality and let them know just how much you love them.

Take a Time OutMommy and daddy need time outs too! It’s ok to have alone time with your spouse. It’s ok to go out on a date. Don’t ever lose sight of this. Be sure to preplan time with each other. Not only will your children see first hand how much you love each other, but will feel secure.

LaughResearch has shown time and time again that having a good bel-ly laugh can do wonders for the body emotionally and physically. Make it a point to laugh with your children on a daily basis. Doing so will create memories that your child will never forget!

The kids are back in school, fall activities are starting up again and the house is empty at differ-ent times of the day, making it difficult to keep up with hectic schedules — including yours. Here are some tips to help you adjust to busy family schedules this fall:■ Create a control center for your family. This can be as simple as purchasing a chalkboard or erasable whiteboard and hanging it in the kitchen. Use color-coded chalk or markers, one each for different members of the family, to record who needs to be where, at what time, and who is respon-sible for getting them there.

■ Keep high-energy snacks at the ready. Everyone in the family needs energy as routines change. Keep plenty of nutritious snacks on hand to take to the next activ-ity. Make up individual bags of high-protein trail mix and keep them on the counter, ready to grab. Put out colorful, portable fruits such as apples and bananas. And for the inevitable open-the-refrigerator moment upon chil-dren’s return home, have snacks waiting for them such as string cheese, fun-flavored yogurt, or sliced veggies and dip.

■ Get enough sleep. Another thing you can try to control is the amount of rest your family gets each night. According to the Na-tional Sleep Foundation, children ages 5 to 12 need 10 to 11 hours of sleep per night, even as school, sports and extracurricular activi-ties compete for their time.

■ Schedule family time. As you adjust to the fall schedule, be sure to schedule family time as well. Identify dates and write them down on your kitchen calendar, program them into everyone’s smartphone or simply agree upon a time each week to spend time together and share a favorite meal or activity, such as a movie or game night. This will help all of you stay grounded and better able to cope with the changes in daily routine.

officially opens Tuesday at its new campus at 745 Poplar Road.

But before that can happen the aging facility on Hospital Road must be officially closed.

It’s not a process that hap-pens with the flip of a switch or wave of a magic wand. Moving from the old facility to the new is actually a balanc-ing act that requires keeping both facilities open for more than a week as people, equip-ment and procedures under-go a transition that allows no room for error.

It’s not a process anyone takes lightly. But, so far, the procedure is going smoothly

and remarks from hospital officials make it clear they are ready to officially celebrate the opening of Georgia’s new-est hospital on Tuesday at 745 Poplar Road beside Interstate 85.

“We’ve waited a long time to be able to welcome patients to their new community hos-pital,” said Tim Stack, presi-dent and CEO of Piedmont

Healthcare. “We’re proud of the new facility and the expanded services we offer residents of Coweta County a n d t h e surround-ing areas. The open-i n g o f t h e n e w Piedmont Newnan Hospital is para-mount to our vision of provid-ing comprehensive, quality health care services across the Piedmont Healthcare system.”

The final days of joint oper-ation between the two facili-ties are scheduled down to the minute to make sure that essential services offered at Hospital Road remain in place until those services are

THE JURYDELIBERATES

At a trial’s conclusion, attorneys from both sides will give their closing arguments, which will sum up the evidence in a final bid to influence the jury’s decision. The jury then receives its “charge,” which are the judge’s instructions on the law that applies to the case and definitions of the relevant legal concepts that may prove pivotal in the jury’s deliberations. In some cases, the jury will be given a list of questions to answer. The jury is only supposed to consider the evidence presented at the trial, but jury members are usually told by the judge that they can use a witness’s demeanor to determine if he or she is believable. After that the jury deliberates privately.

HINT: Opposing attorneys will consult with the judge presiding over their case to make sure that each of their client’s interests are represented and nothing prejudicial occurs.

The Bolt family raises cattle and sheep in South Carolina, and Marie says it’s an honor to share her knowledge and experiences raising food.

“There are so many miscon-ceptions about farming today. Many people seem to think that food is grown by huge corpora-tions. The truth is, most food is

grown and raised on family farms like mine.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that families such as the Beatties and Bolts operate up to 98 percent of the 2.2 million farms in America.

Here, Shana and Marie share some of the recipes they make for their families.
