In a time in which urbanorganisation can represent control, and the prioritisation of moneyand agenda over community andcreativity, the spaces and placeswe choose to practice, present

and perpetuate art and communitybecome vital.

In a move to try and reach newaudiences, involve diverse andmarginal communities, and topromote a less city-centric approachto the enjoyment of quality Arts &Culture, we have moved our festival

to Easton, one of the most ethnicallydiverse and creatively vibrantcommunities in the South West.

Through a city-wide collaboration ofindividuals, organisations, creativebods and volunteers we aim to

create a vital artistic, dynamic andcommunity-led space, freed fromthe constraints of more establishedvenues, and offering a uniqueaudience experience: a world intowhich the viewers invest as soon as

they enter the venue, and not just atthe moment the lights go down.

Community members are invited toauthor this space and contribute tothe world being created within. Asa blank canvas, the festival venueand the events within it are waitingfor you to make you mark. Free of

assumptions, the months activity and the two weeks creation timethat precede it will representan organic chain of contribution, reaction and response. At theend of the festival the world willdisintegrate until next year!

Mivart St Studios occupy a former Victorian factory squeezed into aresidential street off St. Marks Road in Easton. The large, red brick buildinghas housed various industries over the last hundred years including aircraftconstruction and clothing manufacture. Today it is home to an eclectic mix ofartists, makers, designers, performers, musicians, furniture makers and smallbusinesses, some of whom will be contributing to, and exhibiting as part of,The Compass of Mystery Festival.

or events are realised through a skilleduse of paint. Niamhs abstract oilpaintings are often a response to anemotional situation. They incorporateunusual printing techniques andsometimes make reference to land and

The very first modern horror film to beshot in Pakistan a groundbreakingdisplay of contemporary Pakistanifilm talent, breaking all the rules of

local productions and made entirelyindependently with no film industryor government assistance. In the spiritof the E.C. horror comics of old, thefilm tells the story of five teenagerswho, after losing their way to a rockconcert, are menaced by flesh eatingmutations and then fall into the clutchesof a family of backwoods killers. Thefilm gorges itself on copious helpings ofgore alongside a splattering of socialcommentary and several slices of darkhumour. It is best seen as a tribute tothe cinema of Lucio Fulci and GeorgeRomero, but viewed from a distinctly
