Life is about new beginnings. The gospel has always been

just that. Life in Jesus is a fresh

start. The old is passing away and the new is coming.

How refreshing it is to get a fresh start. Whether it is tak-ing a shower after getting dirty and messy from a day’s work to giving yourself or another a new chance, fresh starts are a part of living life well.

Jesus was always giving peo-ple places to begin again. A blind man is given sight. A sinful person is forgiven. A self-righteous person is re-leased from judging. A bro-ken person is healed. An unloved person is embraced by the power of God’s love.

Sometimes we get busy and faith takes a back seat to other things. Sometimes we have been hurt or upset and it gets in the way of worship-ping or following Jesus. In those times, a fresh start is the beginning place. Forgive-ness for others or ourselves leads us to God’s new hope and life. That’s when this truth comes home to us: it’s never too late to begin again!

This week we have received our new associate pastor. This is his

first year in ministry at First

Church. For me, this is the start of year 20 (in the way our con-

ference counts years). It’s hard to believe it has been that long.

There are times, I am sure, that I have dropped the ball, failed

to meet all of the needs, not

been as present as I needed to be. I am sure in those years I

have missed the mark in some way. Please don’t let my failings

keep you from being a part of
