The President of NABA QC, Nigel Barker, realized that many students had an interest in investment banking and wanted to learn more. He took the initiative to reach out to Jonathan Hla, President of Baruch IMG, who has interned in investment banking. Jonathan and Artem Ryabov, an analyst in Baruch IMG, agreed to present at the info session. Along with representatives from Baruch IMG, NABA QC was also able to secure Luis Romero of Romero Career Mentoring to speak at their info session.

The evening started with an overview of what investment banking is and the role of an analyst. Students heard from Jonathan and Artem about their personal experiences in investment banking and shared some advice. “You have to convince yourself, before you can convince others” Jonathan related. After listening to a general overview of investment banking, the NABA QC members got to see how to apply these skills. Luis presented a case study of an investment he made with his firm. The students saw from start to finish, how to value a company and different methodologies they could apply to their investment strategies.
All in all, the participants of the info session enjoyed their time and learned a lot. Sophomore Christopher Jima said “The event immersed students into the world of investment banking…and helped students discover different career paths”. We hope to have more successful events and continue to build a strong community of business students at Queens College.
