Contrapunto Restaurant is located in the Salón del Túria room, in the ground floor of the Palau de Les Arts, under the cantilever generated by the theater lobby of the Opera House and with views towards the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, a space which is strongly marked by Calatrava’s architecture.The design is the result of the collaboration between JanfriDesign studio and gglab.The interior space is organized around a micro architecture which dominates and articulates the room. It is a structure-sculpture made of wood stripes, with a dual function: On one hand it repeats the outdoor space experience, concluding a sequence of cascade-like spaces, and creates a spatial continuity between inside and outside.On the other hand it improves the acoustics of the room and creates an attraction focus which can be seen from the outside.The wooden structure has been made both with digital design and fabrication techniques, by gglab, and traditional woodwork techniques by the fallas craftmant Manolo García.

Fluidity is an installation project by GGLab.This installation is made entirely of ceramics, a material described by our client as “the material for the city of the future”. Our client, Tiles of Spain, in collaboration with the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Milan, wanted to showcase the many possibilities that ceramics can offer, while presenting this in the most innovative and creative manner. Fluidity uses the chara teristics of ceramics to respond to these needs, creating urban elements characterized by a double skin, in other words with an outer side, composed of elements that decontaminate the air, and an inner side consisting of extruded ceramic tubes. The floor is flexi-ble, forming waves that move in synergy with the various layers of the skin. Walls, ceilings and floors interact with each other. The public space of the future is a varied, composed of elements which interact with one another through the use of diverse materials and various building systems, leading to design projects with versatile functions. The project was designed to last over time: Fluidity is not intended to be an ephemeral installation created for this event alone. After the MADE expo, the installation will move to Valencia for the next edition of ceramics congress Cevisama.

On July the 30th 2011, Spanish restaurant El Bulli, closed its doors temporarily. El Bulli is one of the most important and influential restaurants in the world and it will be transformed into a foundation. The Guardian referred to El Bulli as “the most imaginative generator of haute cuisine on the planet”. El Bulli is not only a restaurant but a school, a workshop and a research centre. This approach has proven to be a successful one,and at GGLab we wanted to extend this approach via architecture. Our response at GGLab resulted in the Mobile Restaurant project. The Mobile Restaurant is a hybrid restaurant, a mixture between a restaurant, cooking workshop and a traveling conference centre, taking high-class cuisine to a bigger audience across various cities. Additionally, the Mobile Restaurant will function as a centre for culinarydissemination and education through workshops and conferences. The Mobile Restaurant designed by GGLab is based on the traditional typology of a theater, the bleachers become the dining area and the stage becomes the kitchen, making it easy for guests to watch and learn from the chefs. This typology also allows to reuse the space for conferences and workshops, transforming the traditional restaurant into a multipurpose space. The soft geometry allows the Mobile Restaurant to interact seamlessly with a variety of environments, while keeping it welcoming. Fluid forms for a new dining concept. The dining scene is not a restaurant, its a cultural container (hub) that communicates, transmits and socialises haute cuisine.

Our collaboration with Paco Morales was born with a very clear idea, integrate gastronomy, design and creativity with the new technologies of digital manufacturing, a bet for innovation and customization of gastronomy.

We believe in innovation as a driving force in social progress and that the real innovation lies in the multidisciplinary practice. We believe that this period is the most suitable for the search for new solutions and innovative ideas to help businesses become more competitive in the future, investing in new networks and digital tools, which provide customized and tailored solutions, localized production, accelerates the time needed for marketing their products and reduce transport costs.

Competition Entry Pladur Competition

The main goal was to project a showroom in Oporto’s city center with the only requirement of mantaining the main facade, which was really damaged.The building seeks to overturn to the public square through the roof pedestrianization. The old building remains as scene background.We try to integrate the proposal with the existing building as well as the enviroment, connecting the existing green with our building.The roof is hold up on special steel beams. They themselves are responsible for receiving the ground, drainage and marble finishing.Regarding the interior space, is conceived as a single space. The north facade is kept clean and it’s possible to see it from anywhere. The reception and ticket sales are at ground floor. Two steel pieces at different heights handle the organization of the exhibition space.

Academic Work Cabañal Refurbishment

The proposal was to create a marine sciences school in a degraded area of Cabañal neighborhood. We must use the existing buildings and give to them the appropiate use, making the necessary changes in its internal structure.We take advantage of the big space between the existing buildings, trying to create a building that articulates the unique space which is closely related to all the buildings that make up the whole.Inside this large space, the areas near the buildings have a different treatment, they host the appropiate services for the ground floor.

Academic Work Multipurpose Building

Multipurpose building is my final year project at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. The goal of the project was to design a multipurpose centre in El Cabañal, a coastal neighborhood in the city of Valencia. The program will include office predominant use, combined with comple-mentary uses such us conference and exhibition halls, shops, restaurants, library, gym and a nursery. The building designed has an area of 7000 square meters. The plot is located in a singular point where the scale changes from urban to neighborhood scale.

The design has taken into consideration the large plot, the deficit of green spaces and the dificulty of changing the scale. That’s why I decided to create a tall building located in the north-west of the plot, close to the urban scale, and a elevated basement which extends to the east of the plot, letting the most of the plot free, colonized by the green.
