Year 7 & 8 Reading Renaissance

Feeling a bit chilly these winter holidays? Too cold to go outside? Why not pick up a book?

Students and carers are advised that as of Term 3, students will be aiming to meet individualised reading targets based on their own reading abilities. Students can see their own personal targets when they log-in to their account, go to their Bookshelf and click on My Reading. Reading Renaissance can be accessed via the School Portal or by googling the name in a web browser.

Students who meet their personalised target by the end of each term will receive a reward lunch in the library. As such, we have decided to start the reward period from the beginning of the holidays to allow students to take advantage of the opportunity to read over the holidays. Once a book has been read, students should immediately access the associated quiz and complete it to gain points.

Thank you for supporting your child's progress in literacy. Have a happy holiday.

Year 11 & 12 - HSC Minimum Standard Online Testing

From 2020, NSW students must show they have met minimum standards in reading, writing and numeracy to receive their HSC certificate. Literacy and numeracy skills will be an online assessment for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Students who haven’t met the standards before the HSC can still receive their results and Record of School Achievement (RoSA), just not the HSC certificate. They are also able to sit the minimum standard tests after the HSC to be eligible for their certificate.

The following students will set the HSC minimum standard online tests in Week 1, Term 3: All Year 10 students, and

any Year 11 student who is completing the HSC in 2020 and did not achieve a Band 8 in any one of the three areas (Reading, Writing or Numeracy) of their 2017 Year 9 NAPLAN and have not yet sat the HSC minimum standard online tests.

Special provisions are available for students with disability. Contact the school for more information.

To learn more, visit the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA): https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/11-12/hsc/hsc-minimum-standard

or

Self-Defence Super Stars!

This term the self-defence sport group have been learning all kinds of techniques for self-defence with Sensei Nigel. Starting out with simple combos, the group learned skills to disarm an attacker, defend themselves safely and kick and punch with precision. The term ended last Wednesday with sparring in partners. The group thoroughly enjoyed practising their new skills, which they executed with impressive (and sightly intimidating) enthusiasm. A huge thanks to Nigel and the team at King’s Gym for having us.
