Principal’s Report

Thank you and Farewell

As the end of term 2 nears so do does my position as Principal of Lismore Public School. I’ve taken this opportunity to reflect on the past 2 years.

I have thoroughly enjoyed leading this proud school which is steeped in tradition and history. Last year we celebrated the 75

th Anniversary where stories were shared of the ‘olden’ days and a celebration of current achievements on display. I

must say that the current Lismore Public School is in a very good position.

The school is very fortunate to have such professional, hardworking and dedicated staff. Thank you to the entire staff at Lismore. You are an amazing and dedicated group of teachers, administrative staff and support staff who work tirelessly for the children. Staff regularly give up their own time to run numerous extracurricular programs across the school with a view of giving children opportunities that they may not otherwise have. Students benefit from having skilled and knowledgeable teachers in each classroom who have high expectations of learning and behaviour. Our teachers do a remarkable job in differentiating the learning for each individual in every classroom. Some of these rooms have 30+ students in them. Yes this is a challenge but I’m immensely proud of the way the teachers at Lismore Public School perform and seek the best possible outcomes for the students at our school. I urge the teachers to reflect back on the past 2 years and look at how much we have achieved. You’ll be surprised at just how far we have come. Use this positivity to drive the future. You do an amazing job and our students leave Lismore Public School as smart, resourceful and well rounded students. Thank you.

The teachers could not do their job without the incredible assistance of our support staff, admin staff, general assistant and volunteers. This wonderful team do a terrific job, often behind the scenes and I am very thankful for the work they do. The inundation of new programs and policies that have impacted on schools recently has been huge. I sincerely thank the office staff for withstanding this barrage and ensuring that Lismore Public School has implemented the new systems to the highest standard whist keeping the office humming along. Keep up the great work. Embrace the new challenge – you are a major component of why Lismore Public School is well respected in the wider community. I have appreciated your friendship, professionalism, humour and honesty. I have enjoyed working with you immensely. Thank you.

I cannot thank this group of staff enough. The School Learning Support Officers (Teacher Aides) and General Assistant. I genuinely take my hat off to you. You are the backbone of the behaviour management at our school. Your calm manner when dealing with stressful and difficult situations is admirable. The rapport you have with some of our most difficult students ensures they have a good day and engage with learning. It is an often thankless role but I am very aware of the positive impact you have on the students and staff at our school. I sincerely thank you for all you do. You indeed go above and beyond your role. I appreciate this and encourage you to continue to work with the teachers to ensure all students have every opportunity to learn. Thank you. Our grounds and facilities are the envy of other schools. We have a huge site which is looked after by Mr Hoskins and cleaners, Louise and Peter. I publicly thank these people for making our school a place where students want to come to play and learn. Thank you to the big fella for all the behind the scenes work you do with maintenance including Work, Health and Safety requirements. Truly appreciated. Thank you.

I would like to thank all parents, carers and community members for their support throughout the past 2 years. From our hard working P&C to scripture teachers to individual parent helpers to families who engaged children in conversations about their day at school and the many others who do so much – I say thank you. Education is truly a partnership and LPS is proud to be able to work with families to ensure that the kids get the most out of their education. Thank you for your support. I encourage you to get behind the new Principal to ensure Lismore Public remains one of the best schools in the state. A special thanks must go to our P&C and volunteers who help the school in many ways including meetings, canteen, uniform shop, fundraising activities and special events. Your input is truly valued and appreciated. I offer my sincere thanks to Jillian, the P&C President, and her dedicated committee and all the families of Lismore PS.

And of course I would like to thank the students of Lismore Public School. I thoroughly enjoy walking around the classrooms each day to see the engagement in learning. Whether it’s a kindy student learning to write a new sight word to a stage 3 student working on algebra to a student in the support class learning about cooking. You are what make our school so rewarding. I am proud of how you embrace learning, your sense of community spirit and collaboration, your inclusivity of all students despite their background and your resilience for when things aren’t going quite right. I strongly encourage you to set high expectations and goals and work with teachers to achieve these then set even higher ones. I know you can do it. I look forward to seeing the great student achievement of LPS in the future. Thanks kids – I’ve really enjoyed working with you.

As you can see, whilst I am very proud of my achievements as relieving Principal at Lismore, I am more proud of the way the school works together as one, to achieve goals and make LPS the best place for effective and efficient learning. Keep up this wave of momentum. You will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of staff, students and parents.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to lead such a vibrant yet complex school. I wish the new Principal, Mrs Jackie Nilon, all the best and look forward to hearing about what adventures Lismore Public go on next. Goodbye and good luck.
