Many families also bought good quality books for their children from the Book Fair which was held in the Library. Books certainly do “light up our world!” Parking Please be aware of parking restrictions around our school. The only cars that should enter the staff car park are staff vehicles or those with a disability. We currently have a student using a wheel chair who needs to be driven in to the car park but other vehicles are blocking access, particularly in the afternoon. I am aware that parking is an issue around our school and the Council Ranger was here this morning at the request of the bus company. There is no stopping along most of the school side of Lee Street to allow buses to enter, queue and deliver students safely. Parents can stop in the No Parking Zone at the northern end of Lee Street (Short Street end) to drop their children off. You cannot park here and wait for the children but you can drop them off. Everyone is working to ensure the safety of our students and we will work with the Council to install some style of drop off area. Mark, the Ranger, explained this could be a ‘No Parking Zone’ where parents pull in to let their children out. I believe there was an intention to do this when the staff car park was installed so we will investigate to find a safe solution for cars, buses and, most importantly, children. The Council Ranger issued warnings to drivers this REMINDER If parent’s wish students to travel or holiday during school terms, an application for extended leave should be submitted to the school. Week 5

12th August 2015

Dear Members of the Nambucca Heads Public School Community,

Book Week Our school was over-run by some amazing characters from books yesterday for our Book Week Parade. Well done to everyone who got into the spirit of fun, found their favourite book and dressed up! Students in 3F and 4K organised a special performance for Mrs Bonventi as this is her last Book Week before her retirement. The songs the children sang were fun for us all. Many families also bought good quality books for their children from the Book Fair which was held in the Library. Books certainly do “light up our world!”

a student using a wheel chair who needs to be driven in to the car park but other vehicles are blocking access, particularly in the afternoon. morning and will be returning to enforce the parking signs. Below is an excerpt from an information sheet from Nambucca Shire Council regarding School Zone Parking. If you have some workable solution to our parking issue please come along to our P&C Meeting next Wednesday, 19th August to offer your ideas. We are also after your ideas on the work of our school through the Tell Them From Me Survey which will be happening soon. We are seeking comment and suggestions from students and families to continually improve our school.

Sickness Lots of our students and staff have been unwell this week. Please keep your children at home if they are unwell and I’ll force the teachers to stay home too so that we curb the spread of infection. A number of staff and students have returned to school too soon because of their commitment to their school work only to fall in a heap and have to go back to bed! Hopefully the

sunshine will help us all recover.

Keeping in touch, Cheryl Banks, Principal

The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey (Years 4, 5 & 6) This term our school will participate in the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. A consent form for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with Year 4, 5 and 6 students. The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey (all parents and carers) Our school will also be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys. Running this survey will help our school understand parents and carers perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The parent survey will be conducted between 19 August and 16 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated.

If you have any queries about these surveys please contact the school.
