The iconic Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital carries a luminous legacy. The hospital was founded by Ratilal Manila! N anavati in memory of his grandfather who was the physician to the royal family of Gaekwads.

When it was still in its gestational stage, the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi expressed the hope that the institution would serve people from all sections of society. Mahatma Gandhi was among the first to give his blessings and set the course of its journe y of care and compassion.

In 1950, the hospital was inaugurated by India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

inaugurated the Cancer Centre and brought the first child for treatment to Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital. This marked the

beginning of a long lasting relationship between her and the hospital. The nuns of Asha Daan regularly bring ailing children to the hospital for medical treatment. Underprivileged children are treated free of cost, while receiving the same high quality medical care.

Emergency Services The Emergency wing at N anavati Super Specialty Hospital has separate Triage and Observation areas. This ensures rapid assessment of patients in keeping with global principles of triage and leads to efficient management of critical patients. The Emergency area also includes an Operation Theatre dedicated to emergency procedures and an isolation room for management of infectious patients. N anavati Centre for Critical Care Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital has one of the biggest Critical Care units in Western India with 75 beds dedicated to different specialities viz. Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Paediatric, Neo-Natal, Neurosciences and Organ Transplant. All critical care beds are equipped with cutting edge monitoring systems, ventilators, syringe pumps and infusion pumps. Facilities of Haemodialysis, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Sustained Low-Efficiency Dialysis (SLED), Endoscopy and Bronchoscopy are available by the bedside within the unit. The ICUs are manned round the clock by critical care consultants, dedicated nurses and technicians with specialised training in critical care services.

Road Traffic Accidents As per World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, about 1.24 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death among young people, aged 15-29 years. 91 % of the world's fatalities on the roads occur in low income and middle income, even though these countries have approximately half of the world's vehicles. Super specialists in the fields of laparoscopic gynaecology and foetal medicine routinely perform intra-uterine foetal procedures, such as Correctional Surgeries and Foetal Reduction. MR-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure which uses High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) waves to treat lesions inside the body without surgery or operation. MRgFUS machine consists of a combination of an MRI scanner and HIFU transducer. MRI is able to accurately localise the lesion and guide the HIFU beam that destroys the target tissue safely and accurately. Kiran Devi Saraf Imaging Centre The Interventional Radiology Department offers a single window for all minimally invasive procedures requiring image guidance. The Department offers all types of vascular and non-vascular interventions and state-of-the-art digital mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy services, high resolution ultrasound & colour doppler services for breast, infertility and vascular disorders. Nanavati's Interventional Radiology department is one amongst a handful of centres in the country to provide Advanced Endovascular procedures.

The 32-channel wide bore, short tunnel, whole body 3 Tesla MRI Scanner with MRgFUS for treatment of fibroids, bone metastasis and severe facet arthropathy, 3D and 4D Ultrasound, Colour Doppler, Digital Mammography and Whole Body Densitometry with paediatric software is the only such machine in India.

The department is equipped with a 64-slice cardiac capable PET-CT Scanner (Biograph mCT-Molecular CT). All imaging systems are linked through Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) ensuring excellent viewing quality for accurate reporting. A complete cardiac CT scan can be performed in less than five seconds. The MRI reduces scan time by half while providing far greater accuracy.

Nuclear Medicine The Nuclear Medicine Department provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services under one roof with dual head Gamma camera interfaced with a SPECT CT to provide accurate, high resolution, three dimensional functional images co-registered with patient's anatomical data.

With the installation of the latest generation PET CT Scan machine, the Department has advanced capabilities of accurate diagnosis and therapeutics.
