NARFE Was Founded in 1921
The National Active and Retired
Federal Employees
Association (NARFE) has
been working to safeguard
the benefits of federal
employees, retirees and
their survivors since 1921.
Today,NARFE …
continues to fight against any and all proposals
to cut or eliminate your benefits with a team of
lobbyists, a network of grass-roots activists and
a member-supported political action committee.
Did You Know?
• It may surprise you to know that Congress can
change your retirement benefits, and they have
done so several times in the past.
• The Fiscal Commission also has
proposed freezing federal pay;
reducing the work force; replacing
current annuity computation
formulas, which will reduce your
pensions; and reducing federal
retiree health benefits.
Why NARFE?
• NARFE exists to fight on your behalf to
prevent these cuts to your hard-earned
benefits.
• NARFE also sends you alerts about these
threats, and we make it easy for you to
contact your congressional representatives
to voice your views.
Legislative Accomplishments
With NARFE on the job, we have succeeded in: • Preventing any reduction to your retirementand health benefits since 1993;• Making improvements to the TSP, including a Roth option and ensuring inheritance rightsof surviving spouses; • Allowing agencies to re-employ federal retirees on a limited, part-time basis without offset of their annuities.
And that’s not all.
Legislative Accomplishments
We’ve also succeeded in:
• Permitting FERS employees to credit their
unused sick leave toward retirement;
• Ensuring that government retirees not eligible
for Social Security received a one-time $250
refundable tax credit for the 2009 tax year;
• Blocking attempts by Congress to
deny federal workers a modest 1.4
percent salary increase in 2011.
Our Current Focus
NARFE’s current focus includes:• Opposing the proposal to freeze federal salaries,and other efforts to reduce or eliminate your benefits; • Ensuring that federal employees and retirees are not unfairly singled out in plans to reduce the deficit;• Developing initiatives that would help lower theskyrocketing costs of prescription drugs;• Ensuring that the FEHBP is safeguarded while the health care reform law is Implemented.
We are also …
Current Focus,cont.
