Narrandera Public School Informer Tuesday, July 16 Model Making – Term 2 A very successful term for model making. Only a few students finished their models but the work put in by all students was fantastic. Learning to read instructions of a model tank or plane has been an experience for some but we all had lots of fun. I'm looking forward to running the groups again in Term 3.

Mr Tallon.

Ella Baxter with her model of a Japanese 'Zeke' aircraft.

Kyle Ellis with an Australian 'Matilda' Hedgehog tank and Jayden Lee with a British 'Matilda' tank.

WELCOME BACK MAGGIE DENT Tuesday 16 - Friday 19 July 2013 Maggie is the author of several parenting books, a former teacher, a counsellor and an expert on resilience. She has helped many individuals, families and communities after natural disasters - ours included with her advice and help after the floods in Yenda last year. Maggie’s common sense approach, and irreverent sense of humour, combined with her wisdom and knowledge of up to date research, makes her one of our most popular and well respected presenters and media commentators. Details of all Maggie’s sessions are below - I’m sure you will find one or more that will interest you.

Wednesday 17 July, 10.00am - 12.30pm. The Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Breeding! (The Basics with Aunty Eadie from Ivanhoe) Perfect for: Prospective parents, parents of babies and children under six, Early Childhood Educators More children than ever are arriving in our schools with one or more developmental delays and this creates a “gap” that is almost impossible to overcome throughout the school journey. Using the metaphor of a wise grandmother or aunty, Eadie the Emu, Maggie explores back-to-basics common sense wisdom in her role as a guide for parents of children under six. She discusses what is essential for babies and toddlers and how meeting these needs allow children to thrive and be ready for school and life. (Linked to EYLF outcomes.) Venue: Room MG30, M Block, (Community/Children’s Studies Building), Griffith TAFE. COST: Free. Register by calling 6962 6833 or turn up on the day. Wednesday 17 July, 7.00 - 9.00pm Boys Boys Boys! Understanding, Nurturing and Connecting to Today’s Boys (focussing on the first 8 years) Perfect for: Parents of boys under eight, Early Childhood Educators, Primary Teachers. Maggie has a deep concern about today’s boys who will be tomorrow's men. The journey of a boy to a man is often misunderstood. Boys’ needs are different to girls’ and to help our boys grow into wonderful men, we must understand these needs and how to meet them. Maggie shares her insights, practical suggestions and passion from parenting her own four sons, teaching for over 17 years, counselling troubled lads and working with men in her men-only seminars. She is a champion of boys, and wants you to be one too. This session is relevant to parents of boys of all ages, but will have a particular focus on the first eight years - we need to get them right as a foundation for later years. Venue: Griffith Leagues Club, Southside. COST: $10 pp. Register by calling 6962 6833 or turn up on the night Thursday 18 July, 9.00am - 3.00pm. Relax - A Calming Day for Women Perfect for: Any woman, who at times can’t find her car in the car park, cannot remember eating the whole family-size block of chocolate, who drowns in crushing guilt daily, forgets her pin number, worries too much and cares too much. ANY WOMAN who needs some timeout from her busy life! Maggie understands how busy today’s women are and how much stress they struggle with. This one-day retreat is designed to relieve stress, to teach calming strategies and to nurture in a circle of women. Give yourself a gift and release your inner angel with a day of fun. Venue: Riverina Family Chiropractic, 5 Kooba Street. COST: $30 pp - Includes catering. Bookings essential and numbers are limited. Register by calling 6962 6833. Maggie says: “Please wear comfy clothes, bring a cushion, some textas and your sense of humour!” Thursday 18 July, 7.00m - 9.30pm - Dinner for Dads Only: Top Tips for Being a Terrific Dad Perfect for: Dads of children from babies to age 25. Maggie has a unique ability to “Talk Bloke” and decodes complex information in a practical, often humorous and always informative way. Drawing from her common sense approach, Maggie will inspire, empower and enthuse every Dad in the room to be just terrific! Venue: Belvedere (Rear Dining Room) 494 Banna Ave. COST: $10 pp - Includes dinner (Buy your own drinks) Bookings essential. Register by calling 6962 6833. Friday 19 July, 10.00am - 12.30pm - Everyday Learning About Grief and Loss in Children Perfect for: Parents, Educators, Counsellors. This seminar explores how to prepare and support children through loss and death. Maggie has an extensive background including palliative care, the funeral industry and counselling, and her practical tips will be invaluable for anyone who cares for children. How we manage loss will influence us for the rest of our lives and when our children are overprotected in childhood, they can be left powerless and very traumatised as adults. Venue: Room MG30, M Block, (Community/Children’s Studies Building), Griffith TAFE. COST: Free. Register by calling 6962 6833 or turn up on the day. Friday 19 July, 4.30 - 6.30pm.
