IFTN Report Status
Draft plan presented at December FGDC Executive Committee meeting
Executive direction provided on key issues High-resolution strategy Governance
Reframing timelines based on new direction and in context of transition
National Geospatial Advisory Committee
IFTN High-Resolution Strategy Recommendation: Eliminate Federal funding for
6-inch imagery; offer as buy-up option of 1-foot component Approved by FGDC Steering Committee
Executive Committee Guidance Develop process to retain flexibility to meet evolving
needs and avoid acquiring data by default Develop process and initial criteria for prioritizing Federal
requirements for high-resolution imagery Define approach that includes a cyclical component and
may also reserve some funding for annual decision making Processes will be useful at any level of funding
and can improve coordination of high-resolution data acquisition for existing funding
National Geospatial Advisory Committee
IFTN Governance – Preliminary Concepts
Establish an IFTN governance body of representatives of agencies to authoritatively report requirements and specific justifications
Ensure an open and transparent process Align Federal and Non-Federal priorities Incorporate FGDC 50 States/Imagery plans
Annual priorities presented for approval by governance body to ExCom National Digital Orthophoto Program (NDOP) is modifying its charter
to become FGDC sub-committee and serve as IFTN governance mechanism
National Geospatial Advisory Committee
IFTN - Next Steps

Present contracting and hosting and archiving strategies to Executive Committee for review and guidance
Work with incoming executives Revise timeframe for completion of IFTN Phase 1 Plan for additional Federal and NGAC reviews Work with NGAC on integrated strategy for NSDI
