Conference Objectives

The Conference is envisioned: to serve as a forum for sharing good

practices and methodologies adopted, current and new trends, and challenges present at the national and international levels, in the generation, dissemination, and analysis of MDG data;

to take off from the recommendations and provide a follow-up to the discussion in the Workshop on Statistics for Monitoring the Achievement of the MDGs in Asia and the Pacific;

to provide the venue for a midterm evaluation since the Millennium Declaration of:

the status of the countries with respect to the MDG goals and targets; and

the progress of statistical development programs on the MDG indicators; and

to serve as a take-off point for the periodic conduct of future MDG data fora, thus providing for a common reference for discussion, and monitoring and evaluation of developments.

The Way Forward Workshop

The workshop session hopes to enjoin country & international data

compilers/coordinators to collectively identify possible solutions to major issues in MDG data

provide international organizations, including their country teams/offices, with a reference/guide on the priority concerns and countries that need technical/financial assistance; and

Recommend a mechanism/system for more systematic/structured coordination & monitoring of international development activities & resource mobilization for MDG statistics, at the country and international levels.
