Mass in the Extraordinary Form

- Nativity of Our Lord -

During the upcoming season of Lent, Father Emmanuel and I will be offering Mass in the Extraordinary Form. What is the “Extraordinary Form”? Otherwise known as the “EF” Mass, this is the Mass celebrated in Latin according to the Form some of us grew up with. No one has asked us for this opportunity, actually having celebrated this Mass many times over the years I mentioned it to Father Emmanuel and he has also celebrated this Mass so we are going to offer it here at Nativity for the Lenten Season only. It will take place on Sundays at 12:30pm. (And yes this does fulfill our Sunday obligation.) If you think you might be interested in attending, simply call the parish office and let Pat know. (Only asking so that we can have liturgy aids available.) We could use at least one usher to take up the collection. And pass out bulletins afterwards. Any questions? might be easiest to speak with Father Emmanuel or myself directly. ~ Father Pat

If you would like a contribution letter for your 2017 giving, please

contact Pat or Jackie in the parish office, 477-3221.

It will soon be that time again! The first Friday in Lent is

February 16th. We are looking for volunteers to

help with the Lenten Fish Fry Dinners

in the areas of set-up, pre-work and clean-up.

Please call Jackie or Pat in the parish office if you are able to

help, 477-3221.

A relationship of faith and commitment exists between the Catholic Church and its members and the public, whether they are children, young people, adults or elderly. Sexual abuse is this context, or any other relationship, is a matter of grave concern. Knowledge of such abuse requires a special response in order to facilitate the healing process and assure the safety of the community. With this in mind, The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is committed to healing the hurting hearts of sexual abuse victims and has established Victims Assistance Coordinators, experienced and trained counselors. These coordinators are available to help persons who have been sexually abused by a priest, deacon or other church personnel. VICTIM ASSISTANCE COORDINATORS: Pensacola/Ft. Plea for Volunteers for the Alfred-Washburn Center St. Vincent de Paul operates a day center for the homeless in Pensacola. The center provides showers and laundry facilities, mail services, bag lunches and from time to time, hot breakfasts or lunches to the homeless without concern for religious affiliation. The facility operates every day from 8:30am - 1:30pm except Sunday and Tuesday. Services are provided on a first come basis. An average daily count of visitors is 173; 43 receive showers; 29 use the laundry; 100 take bag lunches and 10 use mail facilities. The Washburn Center has been blessed with a large cadre of volun-teers. Some have worked here for many years and are about to retire from service; however, the need for help continues. If you could spare a few hours a week to serve in this ministry, it would be greatly appreciated. Call Pat Burns or Cheryl Roby at 850-434-6615, ext. 3.

Father Pat’s Page Last Sunday I had the great pleasure of visiting our 2nd grade Faith Formation class. I went there to hear each of these young chil-dren recite their prayers in preparation for their reception of the Sacrament of Confession. We had a great visit. When I walked in they were just beginning their snack … perfect time for me to walk in. The children recited their prayers, three at a time. They were terrific. They are definitely ready for the Sacrament. Thank you “Shark” for teaching these great children. Pics available: cute, huh!

Well finally, the parking lot lights are now on … all of them. We have their operation set on a timer: they light up at dusk and go “off” at 10:00pm. What a difference. We also have lights in the garden area between the church and the hall. That area, too, has great lighting. Lights in the area behind the parish hall were not included as part of the construction plan however we are having the lights in that area replaced and new lighting added. These lights are on a timer as well. + The electric work in the church is now complete. Access to the power is much easier now and definitely controllable. Air/heat thermostats are now func-tioning. Our stained glass windows arrived this Monday and are installed. Beautiful! Wait til you see the “theme” of the win-dows. + The fire alarm system is due to be installed in a few days as well as exterior and interior video for protection against crime. + (we already have video surveillance at the parish hall and Education Building) + Soon, we will be addressing safety/security measures in great detail and there are a number of ways you could very easily help your parish, just ask.

+

We expect to have our Lenten Fish Fry’s as usual this year, That’s only a few weeks away. Please offer to help in any way you are able. Check elsewhere in this bulletin. TY

+

btw: Bible Class is about to begin again. Be on the watch!

+

Reminder that each Sunday during Lent Father Emmanuel and I will be celebrating Mass in the Extraordinary Form (the old Lat-in Mass). We will be alternating Sundays; the Sundays we are not the celebrant will be the Sundays we will be serving the Mass (adult Altar Servers). This Mass will be held each Sunday during Lent beginning at 12:30pm.

+

I’m looking for new Altar Servers. Minimum age? 4th grade! We will have several meetings together so that each one knows how to serve properly. Also, all of our present servers, if you wish to continue serving Mass, and I would like it if you would, please call and let me know as well. We can all practice together. Thank you.
