REFLECTIONS – Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Human beings always like pat answers. We want things to go according to an orderly plan - preferably one we have designed. We like to think we know exactly what God wants of ourselves and others. The problem is that God doesn’t work within our rules. Things seldom work out just as we intended. We need to trust that they are still part of God’s plan. Reflect on how much you try to control your world and how willing you are to let God be in control. Can you recall a time when you were able to admit you could not control things and put yourself in God’s hands? What can you do to learn to trust God more?

“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.” - Psalm 90:12 Reprinted with permission from S.T. Productions.

Nativity Mausoleum Update Our sales campaign is underway for the construc-tion of new mausoleum crypts at Nativity of Our Lady. The new mausoleum is probably 1 year away from completion, therefore, the small num-ber of unsold crypts that we have in current in-ventory will be reserved for temporary placement for caskets of families who have bought in the new mausoleum and are awaiting completion of the new facilities. We wanted to make this infor-mation known so that you can plan accordingly for your family’s burial needs. If you would like to speak to a salesman from the Acme Mausole-um company, please call the church office for their contact information.

Or, for whatever reason, you did not receive your First Communion or Confirmation when you were younger? The R.C.I.A. Program, the Rite of Chris-tian Initiation of Adults, would be the place for you. The R.C.I.A. is a process of catechesis (instructions in the principles of Christianity) and community building. This program is open to all non-baptized adults seeking to join the Catholic Church, as well as those willing to convert from another faith, and those baptized Catholics who would like to enter in-to full membership in the Church. A note from Father Ed . . . Many Many thanks to all of those who took part in the yearly birthday gathering and celebration . Your kindness is so special and means so much. I am wonderfully blessed to know all of you and to con-sider all of you as my extended family. Be assured of my sincere gratitude and my continued prayer for all of you and for your good intentions in the days to come. The words are simple, but true: “You are so special to me.” Father Ed

The Eucharist It is called the “source and summit” of our Catholic faith - The Holy Eucharist. But do we really understand its true meaning? In Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s The Eucharist: A Bible Study Guide for Catholics you will see the essential connection between the Eucharist and the Scriptures, and through reflection and discussion you’ll learn to apply the principles in your own life. In this study you will find answers to these questions and more: • Where do we see symbols of the Eucharist in the Old

Testament? • How do the Old Testament sacrifices prefigure

Christ’s sacrifice? • What did Jesus mean when he said “Do this in re-

membrance of me”? • Why is Jesus called the Lamb of God? • How do we meet Jesus in the breaking of the bread? The Eucharist will change the way you look at the Mass and allow you to meet Jesus as transformed by his gift of life. The Study Groups are available on Tuesdays at 9:00am and Thursdays at 6:10pm. They begin the week of Sep-tember 13th and conclude the week of October 25th. Please call Brenda Romero at 365-3759 to register for this study group.

The Catholic University of America is unique among universities in the United States - even among Catholic universities. Established by the Vatican and the U.S. bishops in 1887, it is the national university of the Catholic Church. It is proud to have nearly one third of the U.S. bishops as alumni, along with more than 12,400 living priests and religious from around the world. In Washington, D.C. the University pro-vides an education based in Catholic intellectual tradi-tion to nearly 7,000 students through its 12 schools - that include arts and sciences, music, engineering, phi-losophy, social work, law and business in addition to ecclesiastical degrees in canon law and theology. Next weekend, we will take up the National Col-lection for The Catholic University of America. Your support will enable Catholic University to expand its impact in preparing the next generation of leadership for our Church and nation.

We appreciate your generosity.

We are pleased to announce that arrangements have been completed with Acme Mausoleum Corporation to build Phase 4 of our mausoleum here at Nativity of Our Lady. Acme Mausoleum has over 100 years of memorial experience and is the largest builders of mausoleums in the nation. They were the builders of our recent additions to our mausoleum and are here again offering the same trustworthy credentials and satisfactory service. Representatives will be contact-ing our families over the next few weeks to answer questions about the mausoleum and determine who is interested in making provisions for their fami-lies. The number of crypts selected before construc-tion will determine the size of the mausole-um. Spaces are reserved on a first come basis, there-fore anyone seeking information should either mail in the return card from the brochure being mailed to you, or by calling Acme at 1-877-620-7875. To be assured of a selection of your preference, you should reserve your space now. Additional brochures are located at the rear of the church for those who may not have received one in the mail.

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 4, 2016

Reading I: Wisdom 9:13-18b • How can we know God, unless God gives us wisdom? Reading II: Philemon 1:9-10, 12-17 • Receive another, not as a slave, but as a very dear brother or sister. Gospel: Luke 14:14:25-33 • Whoever does not renounce possessions cannot be my disciple.

Theme: “Commitment is required to follow Jesus.”

CHILDREN: Jesus says that in order to be one of his followers, we must be close to him. When do you feel closest to Jesus? YOUTH: Jesus tells his disciples that they must renounce their possessions in order to be His disciple. If you had to, could you leave everything behind to be with God? What would hold you back? How much of a struggle would it be? ADULT: Today’s Gospel is demanding. How do you as a modern man or woman “denounce your possessions?” What does this mean for you?

Because our church bulletin is printed out of state, all Mass intentions and announcements should be submitted to the office at least two weeks prior to the requested bul-letin date. Thank you.
