December 25th, 2019 - The Nativity of The Lord
This Weekend’s Readings TODAY’S READINGS For Christmas Readings, see pages 30-40 of Today’s Missal.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION “I proclaim to you good news of great joy:
today a Saviour is born for us, Christ the Lord.” - Luke 2:10-11
THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD… ALLOWING GOD TO ENTER OUR LIVES
One of the most beautiful things about the Christmas story is its human simplicity. How very ordinary! How relatable!
We see a young family caught up in government regulations, encountering difficulty booking travel arrangements. We
see a belated baby shower filled with the most unlikely attendees. Yet, if you attended Christmas Mass during the day,
the Gospel does not contain the familiar story of over-crowded inns and hay-lined mangers. It features something much
more mysterious. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God … all things came to be through him.” Mat-
thew, Mark, and Luke give us the Christmas story from the human perspective. John’s Gospel tells the Christmas story
from the divine perspective.
“What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race.” C.S. Lewis described Christmas
as God parachuting down behind enemy lines. Jesus entered into a world darkened by sin, and it isn’t so different to-
day. We can find it in the complications of our own lives and the lives of our families. We can find it in our cities, our
nation, our world. But it wasn’t only the star that shone on Christmas night. “The light shines in the darkness, and the
darkness has not overcome it.”
In the midst of all that is so very human — whether the humdrum or the horrible — “the Word became flesh and made
his dwelling among us.” No matter what we bring into this Christmas day, God enters our existence. He enters our ex-
periences. When we allow God into our lives in a new way, when we surrender to Him our lingering areas of darkness,
then we will “[see] his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.” It’s time to welcome Him.

Christmas collection is exempt from such assessment. You can make your Christmas donation to the Parish anytime
between now and January 12th, just so long as you indicate in the cheques and envelopes that it is your “Christmas
2019 offering”. Thank you for your generosity! Christmas Offering Envelopes are available at all the church doors.

lies and about 400 persons altogether in the Cayman community!
THANK YOU to Suzanne Howden, May Ursua, Jeannette Duggan, Sharon Thompson, Mavis Davies, Wil Pineau, and
our other volunteers, who have all given so much time and energy to the Food Pantry over the past three years!

ST. IGNATIUS/DOROTHY RICE SCHOLARSHIP FUND —
NOW IN OUR 23RD YEAR ASSISTING FAMILIES WITH SCHOOL TUITION!
The St. Ignatius/Dorothy Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund assists families who are not able to
afford the full tuition at St. Ignatius School (which averages about $9500 per year). Each year
we help to keep children in our school who otherwise couldn’t afford a Catholic Education.
Over the past 22 years we have assisted more than 180 children from over 120 families!
The average child in this programme receives about $200-$300 per month off the fees, paid by
the scholarship fund (directly to the school bursar), while the child’s family pays the rest.
In return for the help, the families actively contribute to the school and parish in a variety of ways (helping out with
fundraisers, chaperoning school trips, cleaning the grounds, assisting at sports days, serving on committees, etc.).
How you can help:
Donation envelopes are available at the front entrance of St. Ignatius Church or in the church office. Donations can
be dropped in the collection, sent in by mail or dropped off at the church office. If paying by cheque, please make
your donations payable to: ST. IGNATIUS, and in the memo, please indicate “Scholarship Fund”.
On-line transfers can be done through Butterfield Bank… contact May in the parish office for details.
Perhaps your company would like to assist with regular contributions OR a one-off donation?
Please consider the Scholarship Fund from time to time when doing your charitable work throughout the year!
Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the fund during recent months and during the past several years!
For further information, please contact Jeremy Rice in the Parish Office or via e-mail: [email protected].

PARISH NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM THE PARISH STAFF
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be
called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
Dear Friends,
As we celebrate Christmas 2019, our
thoughts turn to that sacred event long ago
when the Prince of Peace and the Light of
the World was born, Jesus Christ our Sav-
ior and Redeemer. It mirrors the love of God for the humanity. For God is love. The love of God is overflowing in the
event of Nativity of our Lord. Let us celebrate the love of God in our midst.
If Jesus is to be born into today’s world, it must be through me and you, like Jesus we must be the beam of light in the
midst of darkness and a ray of hope in the midst of despair.
May each of us be blessed during this joyous time of the year, and may we acknowledge with gratitude our Heavenly
Father’s incomparable gift to us — His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Faith makes all things possible, Hope makes all things work, Love makes all things beautiful.
May you have all them during this Christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Fr. Naveen D’Souza SAC, Associate Pastor
May HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE reign in your hearts this Christmas season. From our family to yours, we wish
everyone a very Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year 2020! Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bago at Mapayapang
Taon sa inyong lahat!

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall name him
Emmanuel." (Is 7:14)
The Lord God has done great things for us and he continues to work marvels. We only have to open our eyes of faith to
see how he has been working in unimaginable ways in our lives.
During this Christmas season, my prayer is that all of us, St. Ignatius Parishioners, will dream big, knowing that with
God all things are possible. God has big plans for us and so our desires and dreams must complement His plans. The gift
of His Son, Jesus, was incredible! As we celebrate God's incredible gift in the person of Christ, let's see what he has in
store for us this Christmas Season and in the New Year 2020.
Christmas love and prayers from O'Neil, Karyl and the Miller family
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of my friends and family and fellow parishioners!
Jerry Gracias
My hope this year is that all in Cayman have a safe and happy Christmas. I pray that everyone will enjoy some quiet
time with their loved ones and that our beautiful islands will enjoy a peaceful Christmas. I pray that those who are far
away from their home countries will enjoy the company of others and that they are comforted in knowing that their
loved ones back home will be attending our universal Catholic Church on Christmas Day, where we are spiritually
united. I pray that that everyone will be safe on the roads, taking care in all situations and being courteous to fellow
drivers and pedestrians. I pray that all of our young people will appreciate what they have and that they live in a country
that affords them many opportunities which others around the world don’t have. Thank you to everyone who has sup-
ported the Parish Staff throughout the past year. Your prayers and kindness are much appreciated! I pray that each of
you has a happy and prosperous 2020!
