bath is a valuable, medically recommendable appliance, and it's possibilities are not often fully utilized.

The air bubble bath is a development of the so-called perl bath, one of the most frequent

methods applied in spa therapies. The gentle bubbles can cause unusually

pleasant feelings in certain areas of the skin, improving general wellbeing, leading to

intense happiness and a better feeling for the body.




This explains the exceptional popularity of

the perl bath with spa patients. The positive feelings are also of medical

significance, as they lead to a change in the limbic system.

The limbic system being the very heart of our emotions, motivation and attitude to life.

For some people the pleasure of bathing

alone, makes the air bubble bath worthwhile. But we are not just interested in the

subjective effects, but also the objective effects of the air bubble bath.

Among other things the air bubble bath has the properties of a normal water bath such

as buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and the typical effects of the given water

temperature. The dynamic factor is a force that leads to

the offsetting of the isothermic point and to much more rapid thermal effects, depending

on intensity, for either stimulation or calming, for massage or for the aerosol formation as in aromatherapy and

respiratory disorders.




All these factors can be utilized medically, in

a simple manner enabling the layman to relieve various complaints - effectively.

An air bubble bath takes effect in water as we know. Depending on the water level, we

speak of a partial bath, a half bath, a three quarter bath or a full bath.

The human body is subject to buoyancy in accordance with Archimedes' Law. Body

weight is reduced and the submerged joints and muscle groups are relieved contributing to rehabilitation of movement, for example

following injury or in the case of arthritis.

As well as buoyancy, water also has a hydrostatic effect on the body. This means that the blood is pressed out of those parts

that are submerged below the water, into those parts above the water.

The average leg circumference is reduced by about 3 cm. in a full bath and the belly is

reduced by about 6cm.

As this redistribution of blood always prompts a response from the body, we must observe the way the bath produces the

various effects.




The amount of blood in the body remains

constant, in the full bath, blood is displaced deeper into the core of the body by what is known as the Dastre-Morrat principle.

In this study it will suffice for us to

differentiate between a half and a full bath. The Half Bath

In the full sized bathtub, half full, blood is displaced from the legs into the pelvis.

Pressure is consequently increased there and a certain passive vascular congestion takes place.

This vascular pressure is increased by the

gravitational pressure of the blood in the upper body.

We then demonstrated through an ultrasound doppler technique, that maximum

pressure exertion and maximum blood circulation in the internal organs takes place at water level.

The increased blood circulation in these

organs can also stimulate their better function as a result of the improved blood supply.




So a half bath is useful for the treatment of

various gastro-intestinal ailments, for improving pancreas and liver function, blood circulation in the kidneys, for various

gynecological conditions and sexual stimulation.

The Full Bath In the full bath the blood that has been

pressed out of the lower body floods into the lungs, bathing and detoxifying lung tissue.

The subsequent pressure in the pulmonary artery and in the atria, causes a strong,

water eliminating, diuretic effect by influencing the anti-diuretic hormone and

releasing the atrial natri-uretic factor. To achieve this water eliminating effect, the

water level must be at least three finger widths above the navel. The subjective effect

of this flooding out of water is very convincing.

In the case of slight cardiac weakness, swelling, or during pregnancy with the so

called E-gestosis, up to 400ml of urine are discharged after each full bath. Of course this affect is supported by the duration of the

bath and also by cold water if applied.




An interactive technique alternating daily

between half and full baths also produces interesting affects: The alternating pressure differences increase the transport

mechanism of blood, nutrition and oxygen at a cellular level by stimulating the transport

mechanisms of the cell membrane. This accelerates nutrient and oxygen supply

to individual cells enhancing the spodophagous process or the extra cellular

digestion which helps organs to recuperate. A further effective mechanism of the air

bubble bath is its‟ thermal factor. Depending on bath temperature, various typical body

reactions can be observed. It is important that we realize that

therapeutic body reactions depend on the true bathing temperature alone.

Not on our perception of how hot or cold the water is.

In a normal water bath, 35º C represents a

neutral or indifferent temperature point. A bath with a temperature below 35ºC, is

accompanied by reduced body temperature regulation.




A bath with a temperature above 35ºC

causes an increase in body heat regulation. These thermo-regulatory reactions of the body can then be scientifically put into

practice.

I Use The Cold Bath For Immune System Strengthening In Summer In the cold bathing temperature range

between 34ºC and 27ºC, skin vessels close increasingly, a process also known as vaso-

constriction of the skin. This vasoconstriction is at it's maximum at

27ºC and blood circulation in the skin cannot be restricted further.

Vasoconstriction of skin vessels is how the bodies mechanisms prevent heat loss in cold

environments.

This process takes place in conjunction with sympathicolysis, in other words changes in vascular autonomic function, a state that

leads to increased activity and to the release of the Adrenocorticotropic adrenaline

hormone, or in short the ACTH adrenaline hormone.




The result is improved concentration and

reinforcement of the immunobiological defence mechanisms.

When blood flow close to the skin is reduced in the cold bath, blood circulation in the

inner organs and the brain increases. The cold causes shivering and heat

production as well as small muscle spasms from the terminal nerve corpuscles of the

skin. This in turn leads to increased signalization

from muscle spindle receptors.

The increased neural signalization in the cold bath activates a structure known as the reticula formation in the brain

bath affects all organs beneficially. If only one isothermal bath at around 34ºC is taken, then the organism relaxes completely.

heart and liver can be emitted fully without any counter regulation. All skin vessels are opened to a maximum and the heart beats

Neural skin signalization becomes low and produces a calming effect and the tendency towards sleep and the stress situation of the

cold bath is succeeded by sympathicolysis with a reduction in the ACTH adrenal system.

This in turn helps the bodies other hormone systems function better.

As the blood finds more space in the skin,

blood pressure is reduced and the inner organs subside, which is beneficial for some vegetative neural conditions.

A deliberate change in the sympathicotonia

and sympathicolysis enables relief of various functional complaints and what is known as vegetative normotonia sets in.

A warm bath around 37ºC to 39ºC reinforces change in automatic vascular function, a

further temperature increase above 39ºC to 42ºC is difficult for the body to cope with.

Fat energy stores get depleted from 43ºC with the hot ozone delivery.

Metabolic heat is constantly being produced

in the body and needs to be removed. Increasing the water temperature above

On the other hand it leads to healthy stimulation in healthy young people, and a training technique to adapt to heat stress.

The bath temperature not only influences

alteration of the entire vascular system, but also the body core temperature.

Cooling the body down reduces metabolic functions, heating it up stimulates them.

From 36º to 39ºC a temperature increase of 1ºC has been shown to increase metabolic

function by 7% and 14%.

The increased temperature stimulates functions and consumes intracellular stored reserves.

Cooling down saves intracellular reserves,

which are consumed only very slowly, so that the cell gains time to refill the intracellular stores.




Increased circulation provides the body cells

with more oxygen and nutrients, creates more immune competent cells and disposes of waste products faster.

The alternation of heating up and cooling

down has various effects: Increased circulation with increased

temperature stimulates organs and promotes long term functions.

Reducing circulation and reduced temperature on the other hand aids the recuperation of organs in the cold bath.
