Barlinek is one of the most modern and at the same time environment-friendly

manufacturing plants in Poland. It owes its position to investment in new technologies,

machines, production halls, warehouses and ecological solutions. It has extensive

production capabilities and is currently able to produce 11,5 million metres of

layered flooring a year.

In response to the growing demand from foreign markets, Barlinek is increasing

its production capacity. In Autumn 2007, Barlinek opened its first plant abroad,

in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. At the beginning of 2008, it took over the largest Romanian

wood processing factory. In the near future, further investments in Ukraine are to

be made and opening of the first plant in Russia is being planned.

The Barlinek Group is a respected manufacturer of wooden floorings – the biggest in Poland and one of the world leaders.

The three-layer Barlinek floorboard, a trademark product of the company, is currently exported to over 46 countries in four continents.

In 2005, Barlinek S.A. made its successful debut on

the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Winning the financiers’

recognition confirmed their confidence in Barlinek’s

development strategy, consequently implemented,

aiming at expansion into new markets while preserving

the natural environment– greenhouse effect

Barlinek production plants are the most environment-friendly in the industry.

Thanks to investments in modern pro-ecological installations it was possible to

reduce dust and gases emission by almost 100%. However, the involvement of

the company in nature preservation is much more than just ensuring conformity

to the highest production standards.

It is well-known that the reason for climate change are greenhouse gases - mostly

CO2. Carbon dioxide is a product of combustion of regular fuel such as carbon,

oil or gas. The amount and speed of its emission is so huge that nature is not able

to cope using its natural absorption capacity. The greenhouse gases collecting

in the atmosphere cause retention of extra thermal energy on the Earth.

What does Barlinek say to it?

There are of course numerous methods of preventing climate change - however

planting new trees and replacing regular fuel with biofuel produced from renewable

resources (ex. biomass or pellet) is the best form of action.

Barlinek produces its own thermal energy by means of biomass combustion

(sawdust, bark and the other wood waste generated in the production of

Barlinek floorboards). This way the company avoids the emission of destructive

and excessive amounts of CO2.

Furthermore, applying the “1 for 1” programme, which means new trees are still

planted, Barlinek contributes to the recovery of forest resources that naturally,

in the process of photosynthesis, absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen.

Thanks to this, Barlinek contributes to a reduction in global climate change.

That’s not all!

We produce pellets and promote their use in housekeeping as a substitute for

carbon or oil, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emission even more!

in one place. It guarantees complete control over each stage of processing the wood

as well as economical use of the material. Acquiring as precious a material as natural

wood, Barlinek does its best to take full advantage of it. Top quality wood is used for

the production of Barlinek floorboards, veneer and skirting boards, and the lower grade

wood for the production of ecological biofuel, pellets. Thermal energy for heating and

technological processes is obtained from bark and waste. Post-production sawdust is

used for pellet production. We produce Barlinek floorboards, veneer and skirting-boards

from the most precious part of the log. Bark is sold as a decorative element for the

garden or, together with waste, is used to make biomass.

Barlinek floorboards are made of natural wood. All components used in the production

comply with the highest standards of safety for people and the natural environment. This

is testified by the PZH (National Institute of Hygiene) certificate obtained by Barlinek. The

VARNISHING – in varnishing Barlinek floorboards, we apply multiple layers of UV hardened

acrylic varnish. The basic range of Barlinek floorboards is covered with semi-matt varnish (the

reflection coefficient is 20ş on the Gardner scale). High-gloss floors are also available, finished

with varnish with a reflection coefficient of 95ş on the Gardner scale or a new-generation varnish

with increased resistance to wear and tear and mechanical damage.

The most important benefits of UV hardened acrylic varnish layers are: high aesthetic values

and working properties; lack of harmful substances; high flexibility of the surface; resistance to

ageing; ease of maintenance and keeping clean; no negative influence on working conditions

and natural environment.

OILING – ecological oil does not create any additional layer on the surface of the floor, but

gets into the wood and impregnates it. This process brings out the natural structure and

tree-rings in the surface. The oil can tint in different colours, for example to produce the effect

of a whitewashed floor. Oiled Barlinek floorboards acquire the more unique look of a stylish

wooden floor with time.

susceptible to allergies. Finally, wooden

floors guarantee thermal insulation of a room,

which is felt as a warm floor, and acoustic

insulation – deadened noises.

Exactly. The three layer natural wooden floors you mentioned – what makes them stand out?

Multilayer floors are great because of, among

things, the high resistance to deformation. The

special construction of Barlinek floorboards

and the snap joint that is used allow wood

to behave naturally (shrink and swell). This

reduces the appearance of spoiling cracks,

so typical in traditional parquets. Barlinek

floorboards, thanks to these properties and

their optimal thickness, can be installed on

under-floor heating. Easy, quick and clean

installation is another advantage. You can

install the floorboards on your own, saving

time and money that you would pay if you

hired a specialist. Barlinek floorboards are

varnished during the manufacturing process,

so you do not need to do it at home. Right

after installation, the room can be furnished

and the decorating is done.

So we have decided to take Barlinek floorboards. Now we need to choose a specific pattern and a type of finish. What is more important – the kind of wood or varnish?

Both are equally important. The choice

of wood not only determines the aesthetic

values, but also the durability. Each kind

has specific technical parameters. In the

case of floorboards, the most important is

indent resistance and resistance to thermal

and air humidity changes. This is why it is

worth paying attention to the character of

the room – for high traffic rooms, such as

living rooms, floorboards made of harder

wood are recommended; for example,

beech, oak, ash or hornbeam. Exotic wood

floorboard will do as well. Cheaper kinds with

lower parameters, such as maple, birch or

alder – are good enough to work as floors

in bedrooms. Places and rooms that are

used intensively, such as halls, corridors

or stairs, are worth investing in some very

hard exotic wood. The most recommended

in this case are: tali, badi, jatobe and

merbau.

What’s the function of varnish? What features does new generation varnish have?

Varnish does not make the floor harder

but it protects it from dirt and wear and tear.

Recently, floorboards with a new generation

varnish finish have become available on the

market, with a higher scratch and even

mechanical damage resistance. Owing to

greater elasticity, the varnish layer does not

crack (for example when we drop an object

on it) and still protects the wood.

What to choose: a floorboard with an oil or varnish finish?

Well, it depends on our preference.

The main difference between them is that

oil gets into the structure of the wood,

protecting it from wear and tear and

damage, at the same time exposing the

beauty and naturalness of this material.

So I already know what floorboard to choose. You said it is possible to install the Barlinek floorboards on my own. But how? How do I start? I’ve never done this before.

There’s always a first time (smile). Floating

floor installation is always easy. First of all,

carefully read the installation instructions

attached to each floorboard pack. Then,

after getting the floorboards home, you

need to let them acclimatize for at least 48

hours. Just leave the unpacked floorboards

in a horizontal position in the room where

the floor is to be installed.

Ok, but what does the installation itself look like?

We start the installation by placing the

underlay, for example the corrugated paper

available in the product offer or cork mat (pic.

2). We lay the first floorboard with the tongue

pointing to the wall (pic. 3), and then we join

the individual boards along the shorter edges,

which are the fronts (pic. 4). We cut the last

floorboard. We start laying another row with

the leftover (pic. 5, 6, 7, 8), providing it is

not shorter than 50 cm. Remember to make

sure the joint of the shorter edges should be a

minimum distance of 50 cm from each other in

the adjoining rows of the floorboards. We need

to start laying the last row by measuring the

space between the wall and the floor already

installed (pic. 9). If it turns out the whole width

of the floorboard cannot fit in, we need to cut off

the correct amount. You need to leave a gap of

the case of an oiled floor. It is also easier to

level these tiny damages on your own using

Protektor Natura remedial oil, available in

many outlets. When it comes to varnish,

Barlinek floorboards are covered with as

many as seven layers of UV hardened

varnish, which forms a very good protection

against wear and tear, scratches and

other damage. For intensively used rooms,

I would recommend Barlinek Professional

series with a special Anti-Scratch formula,

that makes the Barlinek floorboard even

more microscratch-resistant.

A few years ago we were installing a parquet floor at my mother’s. I can remember the specific smell of varnish still lingered even a week after varnishing. During this period, our mother stayed with us because her allergy to different paints and varnish meant she couldn’t stay at home. Is it the same with floorboards finished at manufacturing? Is it possible to smell varnish?

Both oil and varnish are completely safe.

They do not contain harmful substances. No

dust or smells rise into the air in the house.

They can be safely installed in children’s and

allergy sufferers’ rooms. Health safety is

guaranteed by the PZH (National Institute of

Having installed the floorboards, we install the

skirting board (pic. 10). To easily match the tint

of our skirting board to the floor, choose it from

the range offered by Barlinek.

Is installing the floorboard the same in the case of under-floor heating?

Not really. In the case of installation on

under-floor heating, I would recommend

gluing the floorboards to the ground. Barlinek

floorboards have a bottom layer with the

proper thickness, so it does not cause

any problems. For heated floors I would

recommend low shrinkage and relaxation

factor wood, with a long period of reaching

the absorption equilibrium. These are the

properties of such exotic woods as merbau,

iroko, doussie and jatobe; and when it comes

to Polish woods – oak and acacia. Before

starting the installation, remember to preheat

the floor. When it comes to this, I recommend

the services of a qualified installer.

Keep the floor clean and tidy by sweeping it, vacuum-cleaning and wiping with a damp, but not

wet, cloth, from time to time. We recommend PROTEKTOR agents for everyday cleaning.

To protect your wooden floor from damage caused by sand and water, and in winter – salt as well,

it is worth using protective floor mats at the entrance to the house. Pedestals, legs and furniture

elements that press onto the floor should be fitted with felt pads; nailing is not acceptable.

Removing stains from the lacquered fl oors

Stubborn stains can be removed by an intensive Protektor Natura

cleaning agent. Pour it over the stain and leave for some time, then wipe

with a soft cloth. Repeat if necessary. In the case of acidic stains and the

like, fi rst gently wipe the fl oor with fi ne-grained emery paper. Cover the

polished area with repairing oil again.

PROTEKTOR NATURA- for the maintenance of oiled fl oorboards

MAINTENANCE OIL – an agent for every wooden fl oor covered with white or natural

colour UV oil. Used as a refreshing and maintenance agent, when the fl oor gets grey

and matt, depending on the intensity of dirt on the surface – usually once or twice a

year. It makes everyday maintenance easier and increases the dirt resistance of the

fl oor. It is recommended as the fi rst maintenance agent for wooden fl oors oiled in the

manufacturing process.

FLOOR SOAP – used for everyday maintenance of oiled fl oorboards. This is a special

high concentration soap used for cleaning oiled wooden surfaces. It is great for fl oors

as well as for furniture, kitchen table tops or other wooden objects protected with oil.

INTENSIVE WOOD CLEANER – used for cleaning oiled fl oors. Removes different kinds

of dirt: grease, nicotine and old layers of fl oor soap. Use before applying maintenance

oil (when the oiled fl oor becomes matt and requires refreshing) or fl oor soap. It does

not cause any damage to varnished and impregnated surfaces.

MAINTENANCE PASTE – an effi cient preserving and protecting agent for oiled

wooden fl oors. It works as a refresher, at the same time effectively protecting the

surface. After applying, it requires the fl oor not to be used for 4 hours and additionally

it needs 48 hours for hardening the layer – it is not allowed to wet clean it! To obtain

a matt surface, the fi nal polishing needs to be done with a cotton cloth put on a

polishing pad.

REPAIR OILSRepair oil is designed for oiled fl oors as a maintenance and refreshing agent and to

perform point repairs (scratches, burns). It is recommended to use repairing oil in the

colour that the fl oor was oiled in before - as the agent contains accurate pigments.

PROTEKTOR– for maintenance and renewing of varnished fl oors

No agent from the Protektor series contain paraffi n. This enables easy renewing of

parquet – we don’t need to scrape it. For periodic maintenance it is suffi cient to wash

the fl oor with Protektor Komplet agent and matt it with fi ne-grain abrasive paper.

PROTEKTOR CONCENTRATE – cleaning agent to mix with water for everyday

cleaning of the fl oor. Contains resins, which, unlike other agents, create an additional

protective layer on the parquet surface. It is very effi cient and effective.

PROTEKTOR SHINE – an agent for periodic maintenance of Barlinek parquets.

Contains acrylic resins which help restore the former shine to the fl oor. Particularly

recommended for high traffi c areas. Used once a week, it increases the durability of

varnish. Additionally, applied on a new fl oor, it seals the board joints. NOTE: Before

applying Protektor Blask, wash the fl oor with Protektor Komplet agent in order to

remove remnants of previous coatings and dirt.

PROTEKTOR COMPLET – professional cleaning agent; used to remove grease and for

thorough cleaning of Barlinek parquets. It is an alkaline detergent, effectively removing

dirt, stubborn stains and old coatings of fl oor polish. Ideal before polishing and applying

a fresh coat of varnish, and before refreshing the fl oor with Protektor Blask.

ADHESIVE AGENTS FOR FASTENING BARLINEK FLOORBOARDS TO THE GROUND

REVIN AL adhesive and PRIMER AL should be used in temperatures between 10°C

and 30°C, with air humidity of up to 75%. When laying fl oorboards on a ground

with underfl oor heating, before installation, preheating needs to be performed,

according to the base preheating guidelines. When gluing is being performed,

the temperature of the ground should not exceed 23°C. Preheating of the heating

installation at the beginning of the cold season needs to be done by gradually

increasing the temperature of the working system – this is especially important

in the fi rst cold season after the installation of the fl oor. If the surface is dirtied with

adhesive, the easiest way to remove it is by wiping it (before it gets dry) with a cloth

dampened with a REMOVER for REVIN AL adhesive. When the adhesive dries,

it is possible to remove it mechanically, for example with steel wool.

REVIN AL – a unary solvent adhesive based on synthetic resin used for gluing

three layer fl oorboard to cement, anhydrite and wooden surfaces. It can be also

used on fl oors with underfl oor heating.

PRIMER AL – a unary solvent-based primer used to prepare cement and anhydrite

prime before gluing the parquet using REVIN AL adhesive.

REVIN AL ADHESIVE REMOVER – CLEANER – a solvent-based agent used for

removing post-gluing dirt from the surface of multilayer parquet varnished while

manufacturing. Effectively removes the remains of unbonded adhesive.
