THE NISSAN NAVARA RANGE OFFERS EVERY POWER HUNGRY SOUTH AFRICAN A CHOICE OF ENGINES.

LOCKED AND LOADED

Nissan’s latest generation 4.0l V6 petrol engine is available on the LE Double Cab models, and it’s a beauty. It delivers a massive 198kW of power and 385Nm of torque at 4000rpm to make sure you’ll get where you’re going, carrying just about any load. The Navara comes equipped with intelligent technology including Nissan’s variable Induction Control System (NICS) and Continuous Valve Timing Control System (CV TCS). NICS increases torque at low and mid engine speeds to improve idling stability and lower fuel consumption, while CV TCS gives you optimum ignition performance.

And if you favour diesel, we’ve got the daddy of all diesel bakkies. The new V9X model is the first 1ton bakkie to boast a V6 turbo diesel powerhouse. With 170kW of power and 550Nm of pure performance, no other bakkie would dare to take it on. It uses a 65-degree V-inclined chain driven cylinder layout, which allows the turbo charger to be neatly mounted within the V. It also uses an innovative Compacted Graphite Iron engine block that offers the benefits of cast iron while remaining remarkably light and rigid for optimum refinement. With its impressive outputs and a high range of innovations such as the new direct injection system, the V6 turbo diesel guarantees high performance, good fuel economy, competitive emissions and class leading refinement.

The 2.5l turbo diesel offers Nissan’s latest generation common-rail technology and has no problem when it comes to grunt work. Available in two high performance versions: The LE spec – with 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque on the 4x4 models, and 120kW of power and 403Nm of torque on the 4x2 models. The same goes for the SE/XE spec – with 128kW of power and 403Nm of torque in the 4x4 models, or 106kW of power and 356Nm of torque in the 4x2 models.

The Nissan Navara is all about delivering a class-leading vehicle that is right for you, so when it comes to transmission, there’s yet another choice. A standard 6-speed manual, featuring a ‘long’ overdrive top gear for better economy and less noise or the optional, very smooth, 5-speed automatic available on the LE 2.5l Diesel models. The 7-speed sequential automatic transmission is available on the LE 3.0l V6 Diesel model.

All Nissan Navara 4x4s are capable of pulling a massive 3000kg (trailer with brakes). What’s more, the Nissan Navara offers an exhilarating ride whether you’re on an off-road adventure or a road trip.

On the 4x4 models, the dashboard rotary switch makes it easy to select from three driving modes. 2WD High, for normal dry conditions, sends power to the rear wheels only. 4WD High locks the transfer case to split drive equally to the front and rear when tackling more demanding conditions. 4WD Low is for serious off-road conditions only, it selects a low ratio for maximum traction in deep mud or sand. The adjustable 4WD system also comes in handy for steep climbing or when you need maximum engine braking while descending.

And when it comes to technology, the Navara leads the pack with a first-in-class innovation – Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) off-road 4x4 system. Designed to help you in slippery conditions, ABLS moderates the engine power and gently applies braking pressure to the wheel that’s lost traction, allowing the power to go to the other wheels to get you moving again.

The Nissan Navara offers a level of comfort more expected from an SUV rather than a bakkie. This is partly due to the way it’s constructed. A strong high tensile steel ladder chassis with welded cross members offers less vibration and reassuring solidity, while its highly effective suspension system gives the Nissan Navara impressive agility and means it will respond quickly and accurately to your commands.

On or off-road you’ll find the Nissan Navara to be tough as nails. It knows exactly what it’s doing, whether you’re towing a load to a work site or taking the family out to play.

From its confident, intimidating stance and raised hood profile to its large geometric flared wheel arches, sporty roof rack and unmistakable honeycomb grille, the Nissan Navara’s styling packs more punch than any Double Cab or KingKab on the block. This guarantees that you’ll turn more heads than a tennis final. The Nissan Navara’s design is also genuinely purposeful with its generous proportions providing greater ground clearance and axle articulation for rough terrain. All elements are aerodynamically integrated to efficiently direct airflow over and around the body, resulting in reduced drag and improved fuel efficiency.

Let’s face facts. One of the reasons you’re getting a Nissan Navara is because you need to carry stuff in the back – so let’s take a look. On the XE (base) models the rear load bed is long, deep and wide to provide a large and versatile load carrying space. The SE (mid) and LE (high) models add further convenience with features like the ingenious Utili-track system that makes loading simple, quick and safe. It has sturdy fixed channels that run the length and width of the bed, combined with heavy-duty cleats that you can move along these channels to wherever you need a tie-down point. ThE COCKPIT

You’ll find that the Nissan Navara is practical and functional, yet comfortable and luxurious. All models come standard with high quality audio systems, air conditioning and plenty of clever storage compartments all around the cabin. The Double Cab offers rear seating for 3, plus extra storage underneath the rear seats of the luxurious LE model. And the KingKab has plenty of space behind the front seats for storage boxes, tools or laptops. The SE and LE models are even more luxurious with features like Cruise Control, power mirrors and remote central locking.

Premium luxury features in LE models include Bluetooth, Climate Control and 6 CD loading audio system. The V9X LE model features Nissan’s Premium Connect entertainment and SATNAV system. The 40GB hard drive-based system has a high-resolution touch screen with a 3D bird view display and easy to update map coverage. The 9.3GB Music Box is able to store up to 300 CDs with Bluetooth audio streaming, and includes an iPod, USB and auxiliary input connection for MP3 players. The single CD player reads DVDs, displayed on the central screen when the handbrake is applied. Couple this with a 7-speaker BOSE premium sound system and the Navara is sure to entertain.

If you’re faced with an unexpected situation, you want to be prepared. That’s the philosophy behind the Nissan Navara’s extensive range of safety features.

An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are standard on every model. All LE models feature Nissan’s Brake Assist (BA), which senses when you’re making an emergency stop and automatically increases the breaking effort to reduce your stopping distance. The V9X LE 4x4 model is the first in its class to boast the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system – it uses sensors that automatically control brake pressure on individual wheels and adjust engine output accordingly to enhance stability and keep you in control. It also has an ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip) off-road 4x4 system which increases braking intervals that lock up the wheels in a controlled manner which substantially reduces stopping distances for added safety and control when travelling off-road. The LE models come standard with front, side and curtain airbags, making the Nissan Navara a market leader in safety. All other models come standard with driver and passenger airbags. The Nissan Navara also comes standard with the Nissan DataDot anti-theft identification system as well as Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS).

Crumple zones are engineered around impact resistance while the engine compartment is designed to stack up in frontal impact collisions. Other safety features on the Nissan Navara include front door anti-intrusion beams, a collapsible steering column and multi-reflector headlights. When it comes to safety, as in everything else, the Nissan Navara really gets the job done.
