Antimicrobial Stewardship and the Appropriate Use of
Fluoroquinolones: Focus on Delafloxacin (BAXDELA®)
Program Description
Antimicrobial Stewardship is the practice of applying appropriate antimicrobial selection, dosage and duration while
minimizing toxicity resulting in optimal patient outcomes and the prevention and spread of resistance. This educational
program explores key Antimicrobial Stewardship principles, with a focus on appropriate fluoroquinolone use, most specifically
reviewing the clinical advantages of delafloxacin (BAXDELA®). Patient case dialogue will illustrate real-life clinical scenarios
faced by health care providers in the long-term care setting. Faculty focus on the importance of early appropriate
antimicrobial therapy (EAAT), long-term care Stewardship metrics, and applying targeted therapy to fluoroquinolone
selection.
Intended Audience
This program was designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists in the long-term care and nursing home setting.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this application-based educational program, participants should be able to:
•Apply core long-term care Antimicrobial Stewardship principles and how they support transition of care
•Understand key differentiating aspects of the newest fluoroquinolone, delafloxacin (BAXDELA®), across the fluoroquinolone
class
•Devise strategies for overcoming challenges in the long-term care setting when practicing Antimicrobial Stewardship and in

Produce Market Advisory For the week of July 15, 2019
Produce Meter
Good Fair Caution
MARKET OPPORTUNITIES
Locally Grown Produce – The local season is here for the summer in most parts of the country. Be sure to look at the regional recommendations in A Peek at PeakSeasons on page two.
Avocados –The prolonged shortage of product out of Mexico continues to keep pricing high. Quality is good on what product is available, and #2-grage 48 to 60 CT fruit is the best value. Supplies are expected to drop even further at the end of July, when California’s harvest is finished. Avoid or limit use where possible.
Lettuce – Conditions remain less than ideal on head lettuce. Quality is good to fair, and pricing is 10-15% higher than normal. Green Leaf Crowns, Romaine Hearts and Pre-Cut Product are the best overall values.
Red Bell Peppers – Light harvests out of California and Baja have increased pricing on Red Bells. Quality is good, and Choice Grade is the best value.
Asparagus – Supplies of larger sizes of Asparagus are tight, due to dry conditions and slow harvests out of Mexico. Quality is good, but pricing is higher than normal, with Pencil and Standard being the best values, and Compass’ preferred spec.
Cucumbers – Pricing is up this week on field-grown Cucumbers, largely demand-driven, but in part due to slower harvests in mainland Mexico and Baja California. Quality is good. Select-grade product is the best value, and English (Seedless) product may be a good alternative.

Produce Market Advisory
Market AlertsFor the week of July 15, 2019
Recommended Items to Avoid
Locally Grown Produce – The local season is here for the summer in most parts of the country. Be sure to look at the regional recommendations in A Peekat Peak Seasons on page two.
