NAYA Family Center’s 13th Annual Auction and Gala. The event includes a traditional Native American meal, special performances, as well as a live and silent auction. Auction items include valuable Native art work from across the nation, fine antique baskets, original paintings, prints, hand crafted jewelry and one-of-a-kind travel experiences.

On Friday, November 11, 2016 from 5:30-9:00pm, the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) will host the annual auction and gala in honor of Native American Heritage month. Over the past ten years, our community partners, Tribal leaders, elected officials and those dedicated to the educational and life success of our youth have gathered to celebrate our community and shared history.

Home to more than 40,000 American Indian and Alaska Natives who are affiliated with more than 380 different tribes, Portland, Oregon represents the 9th largest urban Native American community in the United States. Locally, Natives experience the highest rates of homelessness, poverty, unemployment; are over-represented in the foster care system and have the lowest graduation rates of any ethnic group. Auction proceeds allow us to impact and benefit more than 10,000 youth, families and Elders who access our programs each year.

The Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park Ave) in downtown Portland will host this special event. Founded in late 1892, the Portland Art Museum is the seventh oldest museum in the United States and the oldest in the Pacific Northwest.

$310,000 raised in sponsorships, ticket sales, live and silent auction sales and donations - will directly support and sustain NAYA Family Center programs.

YOUTH SERVICEScontinues the legacy of providing the academic and recreational services upon which NAYA was founded by community parents and Elders more than 40 years ago. Youth participate in programs focused on their schooling and personal lives to ensure that they avoid risky behaviors, achieve educational success, and stay active and healthy.

EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY serves more than 100 students annually. The ECA is an example of how district partnerships with culturally-specific organizations can improve outcomes for youth of color. Students come to the ECA to honor their Native heritage, to receive specialized instruction, and to access the on-site services at NAYA that lead to lifetime success.

COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT programs are an economic engine in the Portland Native American community, offering an array of services supporting Native individuals’ economic wellness, including Individual Development Accounts (IDAs), homeownership classes, financial wellness workshops, microenterprise classes, and career skills development.

FAMILY SERVICES support our youngest children, our families, and our Elders with holistic services that strengthen cultural identity and sustain tradition while intervening in common challenges to success. We work to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable community members, while providing support for families facing instability.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT develops and convenes leaders from our community, hosts community members to come together to identify and address community priorities, and partners with diverse Native and mainstream organizations to strengthen the fabric of our Portland community.

Our mission is to enhance the diverse strengths of our youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education.

The Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) is the beating heart and cultural hub of Portland’s Native American community, providing culturally-specific services and programming to youth, families, and Elders. We are a family of multiple tribes and individuals who are rooted in sustaining tradition, and we come together in mutual support. NAYA, like the community we are proud to serve, is Youth Centered, Family Driven, and Elder Guided. We are a unique organization providing a lifetime continuum of services for community members from infant to Elder. We aim to move clients from receiving services, to giving back to the community and sharing their talents.
