SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL

INTRODUCTION

PRUI was formed in May 2004 by seven friends who foresaw the purpose of developing the sport and culture of Rugby Union in Indonesia.

Prior to the formation of PRUI, Rugby had been played in Indonesia as a social sport for more than 40 years (mainly by expatriates) and historic records show that Dutch and British nationals also played rugby during the early part of the 20th century.

Since it’s establishment, the Union has become a Full Member of World Rugby and has been recognised as an Indonesian National Sport.

In 2015, PRUI developed a revised Strategic Plan, to direct the Union’s activities over the next four years until December 2018, when Indonesian Rugby will host Rugby Sevens at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

06PARTICIPATION & DEVELOPMENT

07get into rugby PROGRAM

Indonesian Rugby provides a wonderful opportunity to companies or institutionswith a real sense of Corporate Social Responsibility as Indonesian school children and youths invariably lack the ability toparticipate in organised sport of any form, let alone Rugby.

Rugby also provides an empowering opportunity for women and girls to participate in what for some is their first sporting experience and Indonesia Rugby actively supports and encourages this through GIR.

The focus in any country is Schools & Community Rugby which allows young girls and boys the opportunity to play and enjoythe Game. Thanks to World Rugby’s great new initiative called “Get Into Rugby” or GIR, Indonesian Rugby now has a fantasticway to introduce the Game to Indonesian children.

To date there have been over 1,300 GIR participants in Indonesia. In 2016, PRUI aims to increase this number to over 4,500participants. For more info on GIR: www.irbgetintorugby.com.

There is no greater way to do something for children and youths than to teach them the value of sport through Rugby and how itslessons can teach them so much about what lies ahead in life.

PRUI provides trained Rugby Development Officers (RDO’s) to serve in this all importantrole but they need your financial help to carry out their great community work.

08development tournament

The 2016 National Games (PON) is scheduled to include Rugby 7’s for the first time in its history this year in the nation’s most recognizable and popular multi-event sports tournament.

In line with the requirements set by both World Rugby and KONI (Indonesian National Sports Committee), PRUI must host annual Regional Development Championships.

PRUI regional development tournament with great commercial exposure is 2016 Regional Universities Rugby 7’s Tournament (between universities in Banten, Jakarta, West Java and Yogyakarta)

2015 Regional Rugby 7s Tournament between universities in Banten, Jakarta,West Java and Yogyakarta. Men’s and women’s tournament was held at NationalUniverity of Jakarta (UNJ) Rawamangun.

09Women’s Rugby

Indonesian Rugby aims to develop Women’s Rugby in line with the growth of the Game for Women in other parts of Asia and throughout the World.

Indonesian Rugby recognises the benefits of physical activity and participation in organized sport to Indonesian women and that current women’s player numbers and established competitions are behind those of the men’s, and are actively working towards correcting this so that the sport can achieve gender equality. Indonesian rugby also recognized that a ‘one size fits all’ model may not apply to women’s rugby in Indonesia when you consider the different roles women have in Indonesian society.

The women’s rugby development sponsorship reflects this and aims to ‘close the gap’ between the men’s and the women’s sport. Your sponsorship will go towards establishing a junior girls’ and senior women’s competition in Jakarta and the regions, and to programs which will educate and empower women to be coaches, officials and leaders who will be role models to younger girls, to show them that there is a place for everyone within the Indonesian Rugby community.Indonesian Rugby is also encouraging women to become coaches, referees, team managers, volunteers and administrators in the Game.

11national 7's championship

The 2016 National Games (PON) is scheduled to include Rugby for the first time in its history this year in the nation’s most recognizable and popular multi-event sports tournament.

Both Men’s and Women’s Sevens Team from each of the Rugby playing provinces in Indonesia will be invited to participate in thistournament.

This tournament is in line with therequirements set by both World Rugby and KONI, in that PRUI must host an annual National Championship.

Bandung has been selected as the host of this tournament in 2015 as the city will host the PON (or Indonesian Provincial) Games in2016. Rugby will make its debut at these Games.

Indonesian Rugby is working hard to expand its exposure to the various Indonesian provinces given that the Union plans to haveat least 13 Indonesian provinces.

participating in the National Championships by 2018, when Indonesia will host the AsianGames. Rugby Sevens will feature at this major sporting event.

12regional 15's series

Indonesian Rugby arranges tournaments for senior age groups throughout Indonesia as a way of developing the Game.

These tournaments are designed to improve the quality of players and their understanding of the Game plus also teach them the demands of participating incompetitive Rugby tournaments.

Such tournaments serve the Union well in developing players for the National Men’s 15s Team plus the National Men’s & Women’s Sevens Teams.

PRUI has successfully run the Jakarta 15s Series over the past 7 years and this tournament will be expanded to Central Indonesia (Bali & Sumbawa) and East Indonesia (Papua & Maluku) in 2016.

2015 Regional Rugby 15s Tournament between clubs in Banten, Jakarta andWest Java. Men’s tournament was held at Jagorawi Golf Club.

Rugby 7’s, which is an abbreviated form of the more traditional 15s Rugby is typically played over weekend competitions and also at multisport events such as the South East Asian Games in 2005 as an exhibition sport and in 2007 as an official sport. The PRUI sent a team to the 2005 SEA Games played in Manila.

In late 2009, Indonesia was invited to send a Rugby 7’s team to the Borneo 7’s in Kota-Kinabalu, Malaysia, prior to the team traveling to the SCC Rugby 7’s the following week. Before departing for the Borneo 7’s the team was named the “Harimau” as this animal known as a tiger represents the dynamic and stealth-like qualities commonly associated with Rugby 7’s. The 2009 Harimau came up against semi-professional teams from Japan, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia in both of these competitions and despite being outclassed the team impressed with their never-say-die attitude.

Rugby 7’s is fast and dynamic form of the sport which entertains spectators all over Asia and throughout the World at tournaments such as the Hong 7’s and the IRB Rugby World Cup 7’s. On October 9, 2009 the IOC voted unanimously (91% vote) to include Rugby 7’s for males and females in the sports program of the 2016, 2018 Asian Games and 2016 Olympic Games.
