Matrix ClimbMill C5x (CS17) “No SPM detected” troubleshooting
Effective Date: Nov.9 2012 Models Affected:
Matrix C5x-(CS17)
Bulletin Number
NB-1211004 Prepared by: Benson Wu
SYMPTOM
1. Matrix Climbmill C5x (CS17) is showing error message “No SPM detected” on display.
2. Press “Go”, Count down from 3, 2, 1. But the machine is not moving.
REASON
1. Due to brake & Flywheel installation process, repair will require replacement to solve this issue.
2. The fly wheel is moving due to the deformation of the washers or the screws are not long enough to fix.
3. The large nut is not assembled correctly, so the DC brake is hitting the nut so the machine can’t move.
(The case was happened in Dominican Republic)
Solution-1
1. Standard “No SPM detected” troubleshooting instructs the tech to check the speed sensor first. (Figures A & B)
2. Check the 3 pins of the speed sensor connection for broken or bent pins. Replace the speed sensor if needed.
3. If after reconnecting the Speed sensor cable, the error message “No SPM detected” still remains, or if you can
hear a brake release sound after pressing the “Go” button, but the steps are still not moving.
Hold the flywheel, then try to move the fly wheel “forward” and “back”,
If the issue is movement related, this problem could be present. (Please see next page - Solution 2).

Solution-2 Parts replacement Guide
1. On the Climb mill drive set, there are three
items that need to be changed: the washers,
screws and the small cushion on the big nut has to
have a small bevel.
2. Remove the DC brake set first (4 screws) as
shown with the orange arrows (Figure C).
3. The tech can remove the side covers to do this
replacement and there is no need to take the
whole drive set off of the equipment.(Figure C).
4. Remove the large nut first by removing 3
screws (Figure D). This is the 1st item. The small
cushion on this large nut should have a small
bevel as shown in the circled area.
5. The 2nd item is in the circle too. This washer
and the screw have to change (Figure D).
6. The 3rd item is circled in Picture E. The
washers and the screws need to change.

(Figure E)
7. This is the 1st item. The small cushion on
this large nut has to have a small bevel.
(Figures E~F).
8. After removal of the big nut, the washer and the
screw have to change (Figures G-H).
9. The screw specifications (current and new) are
shown below.
Spec. Screw*2 Washer*2
