CONCOURSE MODERNIZATION PROJECT
1. FIRST STREET LEVEL/BACK OF HOUSE WORK This will provide Amtrak support space on the
First Street Level; Build a new emergency generator and
substation for the building. Funded by Amtrak federal assistance (also
known as “general capital”).
2. NORTH HANGAR RENOVATION Provides needed safety and furnishing
improvements to the structure known as the North Hangar.
The FRA Rail Safety Infrastructure Improvement Grant and its non-federal matching dollars will fund this.
3. CLAYTOR CONCOURSE MODERNIZATION Renovation of the main level of the Claytor
Concourse and construct a new Club Acela for the station.
Funded by the federal RRIF loan for the new train sets.
The comprehensive renovation of Union Station’s rail concourse will support
the introduction of Amtrak’s next-generation high-speed Acela Express Fleet.

The CM and GC scopes of work will include WMATA's First Street Entrance and North Mezzanine Project as well as an optional task to repair the slab/roof above the north mezzanine.
