Efficient Price Assumptions NDIAThe NDIA has released a document on the efficientbenchmark price it has set for supports providedunder NDIS You can read the NDIA report hereThey assume the following pricing model
86 of cost of support will be spent on directsupport provision9 of cost of support will be spent on indirectcosts

Support worker costsUtilisation factor = 95 of time is billable asface to face but this can go down to 90 ifthe individual has complex needsSpan of control = 1 coordinator to 18 supportworkersLeave superannuation workers comp etc isincluded here
Indirect Costs (9)
Executivemanagement labour costsAudit fees bank fees advertising staffamenitiesHead office facility costsFleet (vehicles)Training costs etc
Surplus (5)
Steve also pointed out that there is a 0 allowancefor things like
Program fee costsActivity costsVenue costsMotor vehicle costs
As you can see the formula doesnrsquot allow for largesurpluses or indirect cost expenditure This meansthat in a market where organisations providesupports through an individualrsquos NDIS plan unitcosting is very important to ensure the financialhealth of an organisation and to assist withmeasuring monitoring and managing risk
Sustainability under NDISSteve made the following recommendations toorganisations looking at financial viability underNDIS Organisations will need to achieve
1 Economies of scale ndash unit cost reduction2 Better client participation rates and ratios3 Maximise facility utilisation4 Improved skills base (of staff)5 Stronger brand presence6 Fundraising opportunities
Steve emphasised that though the lsquohardrsquo financialside of a business is important in NDIS it is
chance to mull over herlearnings and thoughtsabout volunteer supportsunder the NDIS

important that organisations understand theimportance of what we call the lsquosoft edgersquo ofbusiness which includes things like organisationculture and values strategy and vision and yourorganisationrsquos unique story Steve says that theseare vital to preserve and get right so thatorganisations can source alternative revenuestreams and source fundraising opportunities toremain financially healthy and to attract the volumeof clients required to maintain a healthy unit cost ofsupport We will delve into this more in nextfortnightrsquos bulletin with some tips from Melissa andMichelle who are teaching the marketingstrategyand quality curriculum We will also share unitcosting tips and resources in the next fortnightsbulletin
Social MediaThis pilot is helping providers build social media capability to helpproviders network in NDIS and build their organisation branding andnarrative creation skills We are excited to share the below successstory
Success Story Christine Puxty CEO of Mudgee Disability SupportService IncChristine recently received a photo from a parent whose child hasCerebral Palsy The photo depicted the daughter riding a swing for thefirst time The family had found a swing that accommodates wheelchairuse but it was outside their LGA
Christine posted a photo of the swing onto her Local Councilrsquos Facebookpage after receiving encouragement from our NDIS transition group andasked if they would consider installing one 30 people liked this post andsome commented including the Council
Afterwards a community member contacted Christine to ask if theycould obtain her organisations assistance for a submission to council tobuy an accessible swing All of this came from one photo onFacebook Christine looks forward to learning more social media skills that she canutilize to promote inclusion in her community for people with disabilitiesalso helping to further promote her organizations values to others Facebook UpdateAs of today the Facebook page for this pilot has 92 members andgrowing You can join the group to network with other providers anddiscuss NDIS transition by following this link
