Presidents Preamble
Hello everyone Only just over two months until Conference, Exhibitions and Embroidery School -- the excitement is mounting! Although it isn’t easy to think beyond July, we still have planning to do and at our May meeting you will be asked to indicate serious intent to do workshops in March/April/May of next year. If we are going to take advantage of overseas tutors who are in the country, then we need to be sure we have enough interest to cover the costs. I know it isn’t always easy to commit to something a year in advance, so really think about it seriously before you say, “Yes, get that tutor.” Another thing I would like you to think about is taking on a role on the committee. Both secretary, Margaret, and treasurer, Jacki, will have completed their three years in those positions and will be stepping down. We will also need a new vice president as, hopefully, Christine will step into the president’s position. Being on the committee is work, but it is also a great way to get to know fellow members and the way the guild works. It is also a chance to have more input into the meetings and programme, so please give it some thought, and if you are approached please think about it. You will have support, not just be thrown in at the deep end and left to flounder! In the meantime keep an eye on the upcoming events mentioned in the newsletter, and take advantage of these cooler days to work on your projects. Happy stitching Catherine

LIBRARY NEWS _________________________________________________________________________________________________
A copy of ‘One man’s Journey to Heaven’ by Sue Symons, has arrived from the Bath Abby. This compliments the Post Cards given to us by Judy. Needlework notes are part of the explanations. Sue was inspired to do this work by ‘The Book of Kells’ and other illuminated manuscripts. Last month we issued 30 books, which I think is pretty good. Of course, as the old school report always said, room for improvement.!!!!! If you would like a particular book please ask and I will endeavour to help you find it, or maybe we need to look at purchasing it. At the meeting I will be asking you if you would like to purchase the book ‘Mandalas to Embroider’. There is a little advert in the Inspirations 98 or you can look on line at, search press.com.au,. Please give a little thought to this. Now all that remains for me to say is Please look out the books for RETURN. NOTICES
Conference update from Annette We have finally got our raffle licence and expect the tickets will be printed in time for our Guild meeting. We are now coming up to the time for all those jobs that have to be done close to conference. For example, assembling the goodie bags, putting name cards into the lanyards, finalising which classes are in which rooms and printing signs, putting together the roster of those meeting and greeting folk at the airport and so on. Committee members will be approaching guild members directly asking for help with specific jobs. Registrations, form A, for the National Embroidery Exhibition need to be in by 14 May and your submissions, with form B, need to be delivered by 14 June. I hope many guild members will be submitting a piece for the exhibition. Even if your piece is not selected you will get valuable feedback and learn a lot just by creating your own original piece.
